I made a mistake! The Emerald Night is based on the Flying Scotsman (not the Royal Scott)!! And steam trains have fire boxes, not fireplaces!! But you definitely have to mod around the power functions😂 👍 If you like this video please subscribe to my channel for more like it: kzbin.info 😀👍

yeah the royal scot is a 4-6-0 not a 4-6-2 however i love the mod for the tender also they pull trains they are engines

NorthEastern Studios 👍 Must admit I had to look that up and now understand this is the wheel formation! Something I’ve learnt today - thanks 😂 And thanks for watching the video. I have since reset the set back to it’s official build (minus the motor/battery) for display purposes. Still my favourite set (official power functions addition aside) 👍👍👍

Well you learn something new everyday!! I just googled that and yep that locomotive is virtually identical to the Lego kit! On the euro forums there is a thread that suggests the designers looked at all these engines and based it on them in general rather than a specific one. Either way still a great set and can’t believe still learning after this video 3.5 years later LOL!!! 👍

Awesome mods! Guess LEGO was saving on bricks. Tbh, you’d never notice them. All so complimentary to the original design. I especially love the coal tender and coal effect! Ps. Thanks for the shout out 😃

Thanks GJ - that was the intention, to look like the actual set but remove the eye-sore power functions! :-)

Great modifications to the set, you wouldn't even notice them until you pointed them out, we are just starting to get back into Lego and recently got a spare room to host a little Lego City, one of our first tasks is to build a train yard, we don't have many yet but the emerald night is definitely one we want

This is insanely good! I love this train. It’s so beautiful! I’m not a train buff, but it does remind me very much of the little trains of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. Thanks for sharing. Really very cool!

Great work on the mod. I've made mine from scratch and am just in the process of changing from the LEGO Train motor to the PF XL motor, so I'm keen to know how you actually did your mod as I really like the fact you kept the driver space and firebox door etc.
@TheLegoRoom6 жыл бұрын
Making it from scratch - that is truly awesome! The motor part was the hardest as it was very fiddly - you will need to move everything up by two units - making sure he integrity of the boiler remains. Lots of trial and error. And don’t forget about extended the drivers cab by 1 (or 2) if you need to. Good luck and let us know how it goes 👍👍👍👍

IMHO better to go for a powered bogie and battery box in one of the carriages - so the engine and tender can be as per the motorless design. Also better to swap out those tan pins for black technic axles.
@TheLegoRoom Жыл бұрын
Thanks 😊 It was a long time ago I did this and I am pretty sure I had a go at putting the battery box in the carriage but couldn’t get it in without sacrificing too much space - of course, there may be better motor options around now rather then the old fashioned motors. And good shout on the axels! If I ever get back into Lego trains I’ll do that. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 👍

The Emerald Night is a BEAUTIFUL train and I think your modifications are great and very respectful of the original design - that's quite a feat! I would love to have this train for sure, but I'm not sure I can get it over my heart to pay more than 300$ for a used set :-S Did you get yours when it was new? I rather enjoyed your video and I think you have done very well! Thanks fro sharing this and keep up the great work :-)

Thank you so much for you heartening comments BB 👍 I was lucky and got mine second hand from eBay a good few years ago for £150 with some track included - I had to sell some sets to raise that money though LOL 😀 I thought it may appreciate in value and so far it has so I consider it an investment - even though I modified it (I really can’t help but mod sets!) looking forward to your next live stream 👍😀😀👍

You've done quite a good job! The tender looks with the black top quite better than with gray box. Unfortunatelly, it's one of the few sets still missing in my collection ;-o Did you bought it once in shop for a normal price or also so expencive on ebay?

@@TheLegoRoom Yes, that's absolutly true... Some time, it will work - I think, in the next 4 months, I will have the money. How nice would it be, have started it all only little ten years earlier... It would have saved so much money... Hopefulls, the future brings some nice trains again...

Your passenger car has the wrong baseplate. It should have square holes of 1x2, not 2x2.

Mika de Grote you have a very good eye! I will look into that - I tend to mod and change things a lot so I may of mixed it up I guess. Right now I’ve set the engine back to the official build but didn’t touch the passenger car since this video was made a year or so back - now added to the list to look into and sort at some point 👍👍
