I’m glad that you read the lyrics. I always have difficulties to understand sung - or screamed - lyrics. What an important song.

Hardcore imo is often misunderstood. They often have something of vital importance to say, but lots of people can’t get past the yelling. But it’s the yelling and the musical fury that demonstrate to me the passion behind what they’re saying. And Kublai Khan is a perfect example of that.

One of the most appealing factors especially of this song is that the lyrics, for a lot of people in the metal community, are so raw and straight to the point, that it relates to everyone on such a deep level. They have another song called “8 Years”, dedicated to Matt Honeycutt’s little brother, who unfortunately passed from a drunk driver hitting him. In the lyrics, Honeycutt basically says “you hurt my family in a way that I can never forgive on a primal level, and you will never get my sympathy, in the court or personally”. It’s all just so raw and honest.

It’s actually for their bass player, not Matt’s.

He even says the drunk drivers name in that song

This is a really important song in the hardcore scene, what a message! Pretty much all of their songs have strong meaningful lyrics. Highly suggest: Theory of Mind Boomslang B.C.

I have been able to hear/discern the lyrics of heavy music easier after listening to a few albums while reading the lyrics as they are screamed. After doing this for a while, it typically takes single song of doing this for a new band to get the hang of their vocal pattern

If you like songs with messages Architects is a gold mine, though their discography is just a gold mine in general. I'd recommend "These Colours Don't Run" and "Even If You Win, You're Still a Rat" off Daybreaker and "Downfall" and "All Love is Lost" off All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us. Both albums generally are no-skip bangers front to back though. In my opinion their whole discography is no-skip bangers, though that's controversial since their music became less heavy in their latest album. Which doesn't make it bad imo. For me Architects are the Metalcore version of Eminem, though I'm versed in both genres knowing >400 Hip-Hop artists and 200+ish Metalcore/Deathcore artists, those two are the ones with the largest discography (and) in terms of no-skip music for me.

Have to add though, Westside Gunn comes pretty close to Ems discography in terms of size and listenability for me personally.
