Man, I wish ethical fashion was more affordable, but until ethical clothing is more obtainable, thrifting is the way to go. It was pointed out to me that 2nd hand clothing already exists, and it’s best for the environment to buy 2nd hand FIRST, and then go for ethical clothing!!

www.tearfund.org.nz/getattachment/Get-Involved/Ethical-Fashion-Guide/FashionReport_2018_with-TF-Logo_FINAL_compressed.pdf.aspx I totally felt the same way in terms of affordability! I found this report to be very informative. According to this report, HandM, Gap, Zara, Old Navy are some of the brands that are more affordable than some other companies but are also ethically sourced.
@starrya56476 жыл бұрын
Eunice Choi Ethically sourced meaning they pay their workers a living wage etc? I believe that those companies just pay lip service to ethics with "greenwashing"
@kind7176 жыл бұрын
Greenwashing is not a concept that I am familiar with. Is that true? I need to read more about this. But that is disappointing to realize. Thanks for the info.

THANK YOU for not just shopping for more STUFF to talk about sustainable fashion. You did quite well with this. And yeah, as has been mentioned in the comments, doing vintage and charity shops first is both really smart and way more economical. But when you GO to the place where you buy new, there are so many options now, but a lot are doing the same thing. That IS changing... you will see a lot of options open up this year... now that it's on the radar.

You know I dig it when you bring up ethics but seriously, one thing I appreciate most (especially when speaking to a larger audience) is honesty - small steps are *definitely* more important than nothing. Also - you NEED the People Tree corduroy collection in your life. DREAMY.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT!! Seeing your comment reminds me of back in 2013-14 when i first found your blog; I found it soo exciting that there was finally another fashion blogger that was closer to my age! I even remember when you were featured in girl talk and I was so genuinely happy for you; you felt like a friend :) I even found liv and so many other of my favourite bloggers through your "my favourite blogs" page!! I feel as though your content really shaped me in a way and really pushed my love of fashion! I'll stop now because I could honestly write pages and pages about how much you've inspired me over the years, but thank you X

I love how transparent you are about DOEN. I know that it's difficult to navigate if you can really say that a company is really ethical because some companies know how to use the buzz words to get people to think that they are ethical. I think H&M really believes they are ethical but in interviews with the head of their sustainability department, you can tell that they aren't. Definitely check out that video! It's great.

Im so glad I found this! All i see is videos of people telling me to quit fast fashion but no one ever tells you where to shop if you wanna be ethical, other than the thrift store. THANK YOU!!! I do like thrifting but there are things I wouldnt get from there and want new.

So great to see! I feel really passionate about eco fashion and increasing sustainable practices so this is perfect! I agree that it's so hard to find transparency in the High street; as a teenager I don't have a lot of money for higher end eco brands, so encouraging better practices in the High Street is ideal. Also, please do a video of your favourite eco, style or feel good social media accounts? I feel like social media could be a better thing in our lives if we use it in the right way...
@gittevandevelde22086 жыл бұрын
i'm a teenager too - okay, I get a 'do whatever you want with it' budget from my parents of € 100 every month - but the way I want to tackle this is saving, saving, saving. Right now I don't actually need any new clothes, so I try to spend as little as possible for saving up for a new eco-friendly and ethical wintercoat, which I will need in, like, november. Which is in 5 months. Somewhere in summer now I would also like to find a leather jacket or just jacket of some kind, which I can possibly find in second-hand stores for cheap (second hand! they're mostly cheap but still ca get nice clothes, and using stuff that's already there and doesn't have to be made newly is the most sustainable option)
@karaobrien97357 жыл бұрын
So good that you're discussing this - even getting people thinking about it is such an important step. I'm sure I saw somewhere that H&M had started introducing recycling points in their stores for old clothes but I'm not 100%. Great video, and thank you for introducing me to some more gorgeous brands. Kara x

These are lovely pieces and I'm glad to hear that you've had them for a long time too. I would definitely like to hear some more from you about a more enviromental-friendly approach to fashion and beauty. It's easy to get swept away with all the new and affordable trends that have been advertised by influencers, so it's important to have this conversation. Don't be afraid of not having all the facts right away - everyone has the right to be a beginner and it's nice to learn together as we go.

I've been thinking about this topic a lot recently. I think buying less is the easiest approach for my life right now, but what's leaving me feeling a little murky is that when I do actually NEED to buy something, I can't necessarily afford the more ethical brands. Not to mention I am plus size. That presents a whole separate issue. I love that you have breached the topic though. The wheels are turning!

Thank you for talking about this Liv; I just wish we knew more information from High Street shops. I'll definitely be checking out the places you mentioned; I love the clothes you've found. Surf brands tend to be ethical - Saltrock is a good UK based brand. And there's always Etsy for handmade clothing. really cool video. people forget they don't need to rule out ethical fashion completely even if they can't afford it in every and single piece they own. every choice makes a difference, and shopping from small brands not only feels good but the items themselves feel way more special and since you think the purchases through you will likely end up keeping them for a long time and taking care of them better. thank you for enlightening this! also, I feel you would like paloma wool, look it up. :-)
