Nooooooo wayyyyyy. I worked on some of these episodes as a National Semiconductor intern. I remember we took a trip up to Brisbane near SF to a prop/production shop during the planning stages. During one taping, I tried to adjust the camera tripod and damn near dropped the whole thing on myself.

As long as you already have a fully equipped electronics lab, with a signal generator and an Oscilloscope

@@videoaccount5676 Somehwat true but it isn't that hardware complex in this cae and it doesn't need any software at all.

Bob Pease is the real electronics engineer. He must have suffered a lot having to listen to the sales pitch of the NI engineer. Similar things happen to me all my life. Some fast talking "engineer" just spend thousands on specialized software with blinking lights and all sorts of jelly-beans on the screen and assuming you trust the lot there were wiggles on the screen. Of course the boss looking over the fast talkers shoulder was very impressed, because he did not know what he was looking at. And when you just spend $100K, you better love it... Bob's setup however uses old test gear which are available in every lab. Yes, you MUST understand what you are looking at. Bob's setup is just better... sorry to say, but I do not care one bit about NI test gear. I actually did build a distortion analyzer using some circuits from Jim Williams and I could measure distortion down to -130dB... Try that, Mr National Instrument !

I actually understood what is wrong with wideo: camera. It is unusual for youtube, it is like TV-cameta, from TV-serial. This changes a picture. We usually have other cameras in youtube.

The first 55 seconds of this video is just trash- get rid of it. Bob Pease is always worth listening to. I hope Bob's heirs are receiving royalties for using these videos.

You need a measurement system that has at-least 5x lower distortion (overall) than the distortion in the system you are trying to measure and there are a lot of places distortion or digital noise (DAC, output amp, attenuators, input amp, ADC) can mess up your measurement with one of these data acquisition cards; Read the fine print on the specifications before purchasing.

speaking of doing "something useful", Bob's side kick should find something else todo. Nothing he says adds anything useful.

The astonishing thing for me is that he basically uses a cheap self built analog computer and shows how to do the same thing with less hardware and costly while not being less effective..

Enjoyed listening to Bob explain what was going on but the constant barrage of pointless input from the clown next to him made this almost unbearable! They need to give that guy the hook, immediately.
