Hi Bas: It is a rotating wheel based on a 24 hour cycle. At midnight it is 100% red, signifying night. At 6:00AM it begins to turn white and progresses to all white during the day. At 6:00PM it begins to turn red and becomes all red during the night.

Just a heads up not all the links of the band are adjustable and able to be removed the top 4 can't be removed even though they have the screws.

Hi Mark, Thanks for the explanation, I thought you were talking about the hand that would change color, and I had a little trouble understanding how that would work ;~) So basically this works like a moonphase right? only with a different rotating speed.

Actually this watch has a 46mm case and not 44mm. Amazing super watch.

Nice review....pretty spendy for a non precious medals watch......the movement is a different story however!
