I hope you enjoy this video. This is my 192ND "WHATS IN THE BOX" kit review. As a novice modeller my intention is to learn the various assembly techniques and skills required, especially that of painting, so as i can produce half decent looking models, I concluded the best way to do this is to start with something simple, personally i think the best way to learn a new skill is repetition; try, try and try again. Whilst doing this I am also hoping to improve my VERY basic KZbin skills, so far just uploading these videos has resulted in tantrums of titanic proportions, yes unfortunately i am also techno-phobic.
Follow me on my novice modelling journey whilst I try desperately to overcome my midlife crisis. Questions and suggestions always welcome. Please like and subscribe and follow me on my journey!
Everything featured in this video has been paid for out of my own pocket. I am not endorsed by any person or company mentioned in this video.

Interesting subject aircraft, rare kit. New Zealand whisky with taste notes.Thank you for pointing out it is available for 22 kiwi dollars plus postage and not get ripped off by unscrupulous eBay retailers. 10 out of10 Andy.

Hello there @carlsymington4956 its a pretty little thing, unfortunately the NZ postage charge is a killer for Jays kits, but if getting a few, it makes it worthwhile.

I got 3 kits direct from Jays, came to about $100 CAD delivered, which is about £50 UK. Definitely better to buy direct from Jays than from Evilbay!

The Oxford makes a very nice model , like the Anson or the Dragon rapide.

I'll be having a go at either my Veeday or Jays (its actually a Heller rebox) Rapide at some point, an interesting little aircraft. might have to find myself an Anson though.

I have been looking forward to this build as I have three Oxfords in my stash, plus a Boomerang and two Spitfires from JAYS models. That NZ whiskey sounds like a decent drop.

Hello there @delcatto60 LOL ive been looking forward to sampling the whiskey. i forget whether you have built a Ventura/Tasman/Jays from your stash but i do find them kinda fun.

@ email sent with a photo of the nearly completed RFM Panzer III and a photo of the JAYS Oxfords. I finally bought a ‘dremel’ so I can crack on with them.

ah your Ryefield PZ3, i shall go have a look-see. the dremel-substitute has been very useful for these, though TBH not required as much on the Oxford. be careful when trimming parts from the sprues i have had a couple of mishaps on the Oxford.

Hi Andy, Very good video again. Never built an Airspeed Oxford, Avro Anson, Handley Page Hampden, or Hereford scale models. Perhaps something to look into. I've also looked at these on E Bay on prices and Ventura or Jay's model kits. Interesting to have bearing in mind though delivery costs. Thanks again Dean.
@TheNoviceModeller
@TheNoviceModeller 6 күн бұрын
Hello there Dean, there's many interesting aircraft to build, the Hampden is on my radar also. yes the delivery costs via NZ post are pretty horrific but Jays do do a few interesting aircraft so buying a couple is probs the way to go. their build type is fascinating if kinda ancient though TBH i am really enjoying it and learning some useful stuff from having a go. as per the vid i am giving one of these Oxford's away so perhaps you'll get lucky LOL.

@carlsymington4956 ah but these kits "are my precious" LOL i have a back-up bottle of something more palatable for the wallet off camera, the Scapegrace was about £50, bit too rich to get mullered on .

Hi Andy. I know that a model of this aircraft was originally made by Frog and was then produced by Nova when they took on the moulds. Your model looks like a challenge especially with those instructions so take your time and think logically. As for seperating the parts from the spues I would use a razor saw as using the snips could cause you problems and cause damage to the parts. Also it would leave enough of the stubs for you to sand down ans then you won't have the problem you had with the Wirraway. There was a picture on that first sheet you showed which showed what those white metal parts were. They are parts of the undercarriage. I don't know what their technical name is but I would call them the support struts for the main legs. That canopy thing is a novel idea but just make sure that you paint the interior fully before you close it up. Looking at the paint scheme that you intend to do it looks to me a bit like a target tug kind of scheme. If it is that will make it yellow with black lines. So for me it would go white overall first then yellow overall followed by the black stripes. I,m just guessing because the pictures are in black and white. You will know better because you can look on the box. I went to a show today. The North Surrey model club show in Banstead Surrey. I put two models on the table but did not win anything , thats fine. It was good to see my friends. I picked up two kits , a Frog Westland Wyvern and a Airfix Dornier 217 Nachtjager. Both for £15 , not bad at all. But on the same stall was a Ventura Spitfire MK14. I couldn't afford to by it but I will keep my eye out for one and I may do one so that I can see what they are like. Anyway a good video. That Whiskey looks nice. I look forward to watching you build the Oxford. Good luck bud.

Hello there Brian. All of these NZ "garage kits" are a bit of a challenge LOL, but VERY enjoyable all the same, how Much was the Ventura Spit mk 14 incidentally? LOL you are right about being careful with removing parts form the sprues, should've taken my own advice on that, had a couple of oopsies, the plastic is VERY brittle, though managed to remedy them, so i think they'll be hard to spot. as per the instructions the recommended paint is Humbrol dark earth/dark green so quite unusual with the camo undersides, obviously a KIWI thing LOL. glad you had fun at the N/S show, shame you didn't win anything but its the taking part that counts. as for spending i ended up parting with £525 at Mikeys though did come home with 14 very hard to find Miniart diorama building sets plus a bundle of other stuff so i think i did quite well. the Oxford is coming along well, wings done, tail and fuselage done, will hopefully be ready for priming the morrow. like i have said previously send me you address via email and i would be more than happy to send you a few drams from my Modelling inspired whiskey collection, as a thank-you for your continued support. novicemodelling@gmail.com

Interesting subject and kit Andy. Not one that I'd like to attempt though! You're far braver and more willing to try new stuff than I ever will be! 🙈😱🤣 Lovely to see guys still producing these kits, like a window to the past. Good luck with the build 👍 Be seeing you......

@@BobbyG-bp9xrI’m the same as you, uncertainty stresses me out, but I’ve built 2 of these Ventura kits so far, they are great fun to build, if you take your time and dry fit everything then they actually go together really nice. I’d definitely recommend trying one.

LOL Bobby everyone is a bit "something" these days, dunno what i am? just a bit MAD, LOL. i think the thing with these is they have simple parts, they just need effort and finessing, a new skill, and the requirement of patience, i reckon comes in useful for someone likes myself. TBH i just love the story behind the whole enterprise.

I have an interesting pic of an Oxford landing at Edmonton, Alta.. Old B/W shows it dropping in past a Globemaster freighter unloading a Souix helicopter. Actually part of a small collection I picked up when I was 12 (now 67) I'd be willing to make all these pics available - no charge, to anyone interested, with your kind permission...just don't want them lost to history.
