I remember cutting just the sharpest end off of a few of them. What they'll do is seal off the hole in their shell with their spun silk (or whatever it is) so they can continue jumping around as before. Very strange organism.

My guess is that they would like to jump, and jump at random directions unless they detect heat registering more from one vector than the other, after which they would flick the opposite way. That'd be my strategy. All I know for certain is that they're really, really weird and fascinating animals who live in a hard shell.

In the late 1960s to almost mid 1970s there were several stores in Spokane, Washington that sold these in little display packs for something like 75 cents (just a guess on the price). I just threw up in my mouth.. when I was like 5 or 6 my mom bought jumping beans.. and one day I was super bored. So I walked to the kitchen, opened the fridge and saw a bowl of beans. I took them and.. you probably know what happened. I ATE IT 💀 I guess I thought they were corn nuts or some sort of food. I remember I crushed it, (in my mouth) and I was chewing something. It was all oozy. I AM SHOOKETH. I hope this video stops and insfires you to not eat one, everyone.. it’s so bitter🤧💀 edit: yes it was hard to crack and eat,, i honestly don’t know how I ate it, but I guess I was working on it for a while💀

Uh, unless you send it as a package or in foam envelopes you can't mail it in a normal envelope. There's a kind of a press machine all letters go through that will crush the bean. Just an FYI.

@Devin Poe: Actually you *can* mail it in a normal envelope. Before they're sorted in the "press machine", they're actually sorted through another machine that sorts out the bulky letters (standard sized letters that were overstuffed, or have pens or other bulky items inside, etc. etc.) from your average letter. Those bulky letters are then sorted by hand and then sent to the corresponding station where it's then sent to your mailbox. @Maggie P: You can still mail cash, just make sure it's not visible through the envelope. You can conceal it within a folded letter.
