Hi Wayne, the reason you need to secure the cable with fire clips is to protect firefighters who may be in the building when the fire has developed sufficiently to melt plastic clips and trunking. Visibility would be zero ans a number of firefighters have sadly lost their lives because they became entangled in loose cables.

Good information video, but having fallen off a step ladder myself, dislocating my ankle and breaking my leg, I was cringing watching your lad on the top of those fibreglass steps climbing into the loft hatch. Not only were the steps far too short they were at the top of the staircase as well. Everything's good, until it isn't !!

Nice job all round gents! Rented properties in England have required a smoke alarm on each floor for quite a few years now. They must also have a carbon monoxide detector where there is a solid fuel burner in a room.

If you are just wiring one ei unit to an old existing fire alarm system in a house do you just leave out the interconnect connection and just go live neutral earth. Thanks
@Waynesworldofgaming10 күн бұрын
Yes you do, but in theory you should have more than one in a property

@@Waynesworldofgamingperfect thanks a lot Wayne. Just my friend has a very old house with all old smoke alarms in place and one isn’t working so she just needs a new one and wasn’t sure about the interconnect thanks for your time

To be honest it should of been everywhere for years, I can’t speak for England but wales was supposed to be this month. They have now postponed it until December for some reason 🤷🏻♂️

@@Waynesworldofgaming My house was newly built in the UK in 2016 All smokes are mains powered on a separate breaker and interconnected with 9V battery back up in each unit. I think this has been in force on new build homes and HMOs since the early 90s I’m not a sparky so correct me if I’m wrong.

@ yes it has been in new builds, but it’s now all rentals, so they need to be retro fitted to older property’s

Aren't you supposed to have a means of isolating the alarms separately to the lights? I tend to put in an FCU from the light feed and then run cable from there.
@Waynesworldofgaming2 жыл бұрын
That’s a good idea, I just find if they are on there own supply tenants turn them off if they annoy them. I put them on with the lights so that this doesn’t happen
@lh25892 жыл бұрын
That's why I run them off the lights and to an unswitched FCU. Then they can't turn them off unless they pull the fuse
@Waynesworldofgaming2 жыл бұрын
@@lh2589 agree with you mate, it’s a good idea. I just never thought of it
@pah9844 Жыл бұрын
Where would you put the FCU. Left in the attic or under the floor joist?
@alvina69 Жыл бұрын
Not heard of that one before. I’ve read the Aico manual from cover to cover and it doesn’t mention that it needs to be isolated separately from the lights.
