I’ve had the REI in strong winds fully guyed out without issues. With the garage doors, with additional poles, then you can make awnings out of them. The center fly buckles, instead of buckling into the body buckle, you can stake it out to pull the center of the fly out even more

Nice reviews! I bought the Wawona 6 precisely because it is bullet-proof when it comes to rain. Another reviewer had hers out in torrential downpour for 3 days with ankle high standing water around the tent with one of the corners completely submerged. When she went into the tent to check for leaks all she found was slight dampness on the back wall. Everywhere else, including the corner that was submerged, was completely dry.

I feel uniquely qualified to provide my feedback on both tents. In August of last year our family camped at Badlands National Park. We have the Wawona 4 tent. At 3:00 in the morning there was a terrible wind storm which leveled several tents. Our tent was unscathed. A family across from us had the REI Kingdom and it was totally destroyed. Now obviously I can't vouch that they set it up correctly or anything like that, but It should provide some kind of insight. Great video, dudes!

Sounds like a fun night of camping always nice to be the ones that come out the next morning unscathed Happy camping

I have the Kingdom 6 and it (just about) withstood a severe storm in its first outing. I didn't have it guyed out initially and woke up in the middle of the night with the fly half blown off as the (unforecast!) storm started. I then did guy it out and it stayed up despite very strong winds and no shelter or respite from trees or rocks etc. The poles were very bent though by the morning, and I had to replace about a third of them. You cannot bend them back and they are good quality poles. Just the effects of wind on a tall tent I guess.

I pitched my new Kingdom 6 in the yard today and my two terrier boys went crazy, running around inside then doing laps around the tent. It's just the three of us, so the 6 feels luxurious. I had several seasons with a Kingdom 4 and loved it. But last spring a freak windstorm at night ended its career. 60 mph gusts that knocked over porta potties and tore big branches from trees. My fault was that I had only staked it down minimally because such winds had not been forecast and are very rare where I live. It tore the stakes out and turned the tent on its side. In the dark I slowly disengaged myself from cot, sleeping bag, table, chair, and dogs and then, finally, found a lantern. The new tent is getting staked down in overkill mode. I notice in the REI tent reviews a lot of complaints about wind damage and I wonder how well the tents had been anchored.

The soon to be discontinued Kingdom 6 is on sale at REI for $298 from $500. Should I pull the trigger on it, or wait for another generation? We go camping Memorial Day weekend. BTW, your significant other does a great job directing the scope of your review. 👍

The new Wonderland appears to not be as nice a tent as the Kingdom. Grab the Kingdom at that price!

I have the Rei tent and it's great.....except the tent is poor in the wind. It needs some type of cross-pole to improve it. I think that's why they are dropping it.

This guy really is a good reviewer. Hoping for a follow up vid to hear about the performance of the north face.

Complete with very fair points! Seems like the Wawona would be an all around perfect tent by making a few obvious minor improvements. Will wait for the next gen. Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks for going threw the bags at the end too. I like that the kingdom has shoulder straps. I've been to a few sight that you had to walk a little ways to the sight.

Too bad the main door to the tent can't be zippered shut with tent fabric. Seems it would help keep in the warmth on those colder nights.

Sucks that REI discontinued that model already with no real replacement. Mudroom can't even be found anymore. Also a bummer that Northface made the change on the Wawona 6. Our friends have the older model and it's so much better compared to the "new and improved" model. I guess the hunt for a family tent continues. Need something that can handle the winds coming over the continental divide and cooler night temps here in colorado. Great review though, this was a very informative watch.

I feel your pain. I have a bombproof Kelty Typhoon 2 that has withstood everything Colorado has to offer. I, too, am searching for a really nice family winter camping tent. I think I have found it in the Cabelas Alaskan Guide 6 tent. I haven't bought it yet but plan too soon.

very comprehensive review. I am looking to purchase the Wawona 6. Is it an option to set up the tent with rainfly but not set up the garage? Curious in case I need to use in a smaller space that might not allow to set up the entire tent+garage but would still want to utilize the rainfly. Thanks!

Such nice tents. Have been camp in the wawona 6p and its very good quality.

Tip: on the REI the poles are meant to go in the divider pocket between the fly/tent pocket. That way the poles don’t damage the tent. I enjoyed the video thanks for posting.

Our church is looking for a tent and we are considering both this tent together with the REI basecamp 6. On your honest opinion and experience, which one would you recommend for our group. we will be purchasing 20 tents for our youth this coming month. Thanks

I would go with North face I feel like it’s toughest and maybe easiest set up however if the privacy zip between that the REI provides is important or useful might still be something to consider also Northface is cheaper than the REI unless you’re skipping the garage hope this helps happy camping

Thanks for showing us the differences. The cameraman should stick to filming and the little ding-a-ling used for features is annoying.

Anyone able to comment on the REI one compared to the Big Agnes Big House 6, which is cheaper and seems to have more comfortable/usable space. I’m worried about reports the REI leaks and does not have a lifetime warranty. I camp only a few times a year and may not be in rain until year 2 with no warranty. Worried the taller Big House is a wind problem. We plan to only camp in nice weather but of course no guarantees you get what you signed up for.

The REI is terrible in any amount of wind - that pole style does not provide alot of strength, I returned mine after a night of moderate winds coming from shifting direction, even with guylines , there is not a lot of strength vs the cross cross style poles like the north face.
@whatsnext28632 жыл бұрын
Yeah I like the crossover style way better why my personal favorite is the north face
