As a first responder, the first thing that comes to mind for me is a huge safety design flaw. And that's the handles. Door handles are, for us, an alternative to forcing the door open, if the hinges work and the vehicle is fine. However, with these we have no choice but to force them, damaging the vehicle, even if it's only a medical call, due to design. Another is in the event of a fire. How are we going to do as little damage as possible while extinguishing the fire. In this case, breaking the window. With other cars, we could just force or the door would already be open, but the upward motion is also a hazard.

But in Norway, without a garage in -15 to 25 C (5 to -13 F) as a normal range throughout the day, and you wake up to dig your car out of the snow and go to work. You open and close the door throughout the day, some snow crystals gets in there. There's moisture. Its not just the ice on the outside of the doors, it's inside the door handles. Unless it had a button on the keys for "heat up door handle" what am I supposed to do? Bring an extension cord and a hairdryer? And if the battery in the key is low and it doesn't register when you press buttons. What if the cold messes with sensors that makes the doors open with a light touch (as long as the key is within a certain range. My mom has that with her car does have issues with that). It's these kinds of concerns I think of when I see these cool things. I mean, if the door doesn't gave the option for me to put a key in and manually unlock and open the door, that is immediately a worry for me. I've had way too many issues with fancy modern things being very inconvenient (or even straight up a problem) if I wanted to take the car up to my mountain cabin in the woods. These are super cool in warmer climate city environments

I worked for a company who done work for lotus in England.. I was very lucky as we kept all the parts for the roadster before I even knew really what tesla was all about. I remember the car very well as we had the chance to see it before many did. I actually handled many parts for the cars, that's my lil claim to not so much fame. Great to see one again after such a long time, also got to see one of the Evora prototypes they kept in a crate before was released too. 😀

You can enable auto presenting handles on the S which automatically pops out when you approach the vehicle. On the X you can hand the front doors open up for you as you approach as well.

@@acreativename7999 can't remember where I saw it (maybe even here) where a Ford mechanic and engineer tore apart a Tesla and they were baffled at how complicated they made the simplest things. Something to the effect of panels using 12 bolts when 4 would have sufficed. Certain parts needing intricate machine work to make fit when an easier more effective design woulda been more cost effective and feasible. But I guess when you're selling cars to fund your Star Wars project you care less about these things and more about sales numbers.

Ergonomic means how much grip it has or how well it fits in your hand. I think what he means is that the handles on these look uncomfortable to have to grip because of the straight edges.

Yes, $300 is pretty cheap for a repair like that at the dealer/manufacturer. The cost of repairing or replacing manual door handles is around $200, so $300 for the motorized one is pretty cheap.

That sounds like a big problem imagine for a second there's a blizzard and you end up stuck in the blizzard in your model X and over the next couple of days you run out your battery trying to keep warm and you have to get out every once in a while to go, and at some point you get out to go to do your business, and you closed the door and you forgot your test was dead, You just locked yourself out of your car in a blizzard... congratulations.
