Sidney D - Arlene and Martin seemed to have such an amazing and happy relationship. I've read her book, and she really looked up to him and respected him so much. I have occasion to travel All over the country by car throughout the year for work... and last spring took a little break, to stop by the cemetery just outside of Philly where they are interred, to place a rose. I thought it would be a nice way to honor their memory and all the happiness they brought over the years.

Ginny Lorenz - I had a misspent childhood watching such wonders as this with my parents. Like you, these postings take me back to what was of huge influence on me then plus in a sense more time with my folks. The most interesting thing to me now, at age 70, is to see Thomas Eagleton, Seiji Ozawa, Frank Lloyd Wright, Margaret Chase Smith and others who soon hereafter came to fame or infamy plus those who held great weight in the public mind back then.
@loissimmons65586 жыл бұрын
+Ginny Lorenz This episode aired on the first Christmas in my family's new home, the one my parents would own until they moved to a senior citizen complex. The one disadvantage of the new home was the layout. In our previous home, while my parents were in the living room, I could sneak out of my bedroom, walk down the hall and crawl under the dining room table. Lying on my stomach while I should have been in bed, it gave me a perfect view of the TV set. I was a night owl even back then. Invariably my mom caught me, but for a little while at least, I got another taste of the adult world I so much wanted to be a part of. Now that I'm 65+, I am starting to wonder what was my rush!!!

On some shows, a designer is credited with furnishing the ladies' gowns, in which case they are not worn twice, and are property of the designer that are later returned. I've heard... from interviews with Bennett Cerf... that, although they all got along, Dorothy was not as much a part of their socializing as the others for two main reasons. Bennett stated that her politics differed from the others (not sure what that means) and she has a different perspective on issues of the day than the other panelists. But more importantly, according to Bennett, they all very quickly realized that Dorothy was a reporter first and game show player second. That became an issue when Dorothy would write about conversations the WML panel members would have in her newspaper writings, which were often meant to be in confidence. The others didn't like that and soon would be very careful when speaking with Dorothy around. John Daly, in particular, had problems with Dorothy revealing the content of what he felt were private conversations in her article. They didn't dislike Dorothy, but this matter certainly left her excluded from the frequent socializing the others enjoyed.

I just love this program. The clever tricks they play on the panel! Arlene and Dorothy are ususually the most savvy to twig whats going on. In this show, the "superior" sex for sure🤓

You wish it was 1961 again, when gas was 33\34 cents a gallon, and postage stamps were 8 cents for 1st class mail? But also in the early 1960s, at the 5 and dime store on a table there was a BIG pile of rabbits feet, in two sizes many different colors - I didn't know they were the REAL thing then, when I was 6, 7 years old, shopping malls weren't around yet, so big crowds of people went to the Newberrys store...

Dorothy and Tony were easily amused tonight. Tony seemed to find it difficult to stop laughing at Arlene's introduction of Bennett, the same for Dorothy when Bennett introduced John Daly, and then Dorothy and Tony can be heard laughing at the first contestant (no doubt because it was a pair of twins) I'd suggest that it's a positive thing to be easily amused...in much the same way as being a "cheap drunk" can be a positive thing.

It's your age. In 1960 it was very rare to see a female barber in most, if not all, of the country. Between the barber unions anEven in the 70's there were prostitution rings and the separation of jobs by sex, men cut hair and women styled hair, female barbers were somewhat a rarity not to mention the jealousy/sexual angle of going to a female barber. Even i the 70's there were prostitution rings run out of "barber shops" much like the "massage parlors" of today.

My how times have changed , back in the day of WML everyone dresses to the max but in today world your lucky if they wear a t shirt. I remember back in my teen years my whole family would downtown dressed to the max just to watch "how the west was won" . It was a just a cinema but a very nice one with velvet curtains and such and oh yeah , ushers. Those were days.

I know what you mean. When I was growing up in the 60s and 70s the men at my Armenian church all dressed in suits and ties, and the women all wore dresses. When I went to my friend's Catholic church after the year 2000, people came in T-shirts, shorts, flip flops, etc.
