5 Things Disney+ Needs To Improve

It's been five years since Disney+ first launched in the Netherlands, prior to its official launch in November 2019. Over that time we've seen many new shows and films released on the streaming platform, with original shows like "The Mandalorian" and "WandaVision".
During that time, we've also seen many changes to Disney+. The core concept that just focused on five core brands, Pixar, National Geographic, Marvel, Star Wars and Disney, has slowly shifted to one that is trying to entertain everyone.
But while there have been lots of changes, there are also lots of issues with Disney+ that haven't been fixed after all of these years, and there are also new problems that have evolved over the years.

They do need to improve on bringing back old shows too like JoJo’s Circus, Stanley, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, House Of Mouse, Koala Brothers, Charlie and Lola, Ooh and Aah, Bear in the Big Blue House’s missing episodes, and Breakfast with Bear. Plus Hailey’s On It needs to be brought back on Disney Plus as well.

I saw a theory that they are waiting to see how Moana 2 performs. If it does well, then they will greenlight season two of Haileys On It, according to this theory. It is based on the fact that Auli D'Cravalho had to go in and do the voice for Moana, which if they had made it a TV show, they would have used a different voice actress which means her schedule would have been free. (btw how is the Tiana series not known when it is coming yet? There is zero reason that should nto have coincided with the release of Tiana's Bayou Adventure, should at the very least, come out the same year.)

I know a few ways of how Disney+ should improve, add in all of the other missing Spider-Man movies like Into the SpiderVerse, Venom Let There Be Carnage, Spider-Man No Way Home, Ghost Rider and Spirit of Vengeance, and that way we have all of the marvel titles from Sony Pictures completed since Across the SpiderVerse might leave Netflix in the US in the coming months

Marvel have been in talks with Sony over sharing the rights of Spider-Man and it’s characters but unfortunately Sony holding onto them mega tight so don’t get your hopes up too much. Venom supposed to be coming to MCU soon but as for other characters it’s still a little hazy

They need to color and enliven the app homepage. I agree with you, Roger. Bring the Disney+ logo into the app, utilize the Disney colors of blue and white to replace the predominant gray, free the icons and prioritize streaming video of images from the products.

I would like the following things done to improve the site: 1. A way to look for stuff by year and put in categories by year of release. 2. A watch history guide of what you have seen. 3. Adding more classic stuff from the 1970’s and before.

I want Disney+ should improve, to add Aladdin: The Broadway Musical (filmed live on stage in London) with Jonathan Freeman reprised the role of Jafar and the 20th Century Fox film classics with a new 4K restorations by The Walt Disney Studios and the Academy Film Archive in collaboration with The Film Foundation this year.

One of the improvements that I want to see happen with Disney, is them adding more of their classic content to Disney+ every month, which I'm hoping will start this Fall (in the US). Another improvement that I want to see happen with Disney, is how they treat the child actors and child actresses at their company.

I completely agree with you, especially regarding the limited content produced as Disney+ originals. While there are many Hulu/Star Originals, the Disney+ brand seems to be fading. To compete with Netflix, I believe they should adopt a strategy like "Young Woman at Sea," meaning they should release movies in theaters for a short time before adding them as Disney+ Originals. This approach could enhance their content and attract a larger audience to the platform.

I have two more things Disney Plus needs to improve: 1) Adding all Disney TV shows like "Mickey Mouse's House of Mouse" and "The Legends of Tarzan". 2) Merging with streaming services that contain movies and TV shows from DreamWorks, Universal, Warner Brothers and Entertainment One.

@@WhatsOnDisneyPlusHulu actually started as a free ad supported service where the goal was if u missed an episode of your favorite show go to Hulu the next day and it would be there free alongside other content like being able to see older shows and it was a joint venture between Disney fox and universal so a lot of dormant accounts that are there like mine are from Hulu’s free days

For the next day episodes, in the US, I think the reason they do this is to push people to the more expensive live TV package. For Disney, they offer Hulu with live TV package. It's around 80 dollars a month and has live feed of many channels comparable to a cable package. NBC and CBS also drop episodes next day, and offer a live feed of the local station on the more expensive tier of their respective streaming service.

I think the reason ABC shows are still “next day” rather than simultaneously released on Hulu and Disney Plus comes down to contracts with the network affiliates. One big hurdle is that there is both an East Coast and West Coast schedule. Ever since Dancing With The Stars returned to ABC, the live stream of the East Coast airing has been disabled on Disney Plus for West Coast audiences, because the West Coast ABC networks don’t want to lose any of those West Coast viewers. Hopefully simultaneous streaming releases become more common place, but I guess a lot needs to be ironed out to make it possible. HBO and Max shows that it is possible as well, as HBO’s originals are immediately available to watch on Max as they are airing on linear HBO.

I imagine a big thing that made it a lot easier for HBO shows to release simultaneously on Max is that HBO isn’t ad-supported and isn’t split into multiple affiliates around the US. Network affiliates, on the other hand, heavily rely on those ads, thus they fear streaming cannibalizing their linear viewers.

They only released two foreign language shows this year (The Secret Score in March and Ayla and the Mirrors in September) that are of note. I will say Ayla would've been annoying if they hadn't dubbed it but they did, and The Secret Score is awesome with subtitles.

They have GOT to purchase the rest of Hulu from Comcast. Bob Iger should have done that around 2017 or ‘18 before Disney+ officially launched.

There is another way to improve Disney+, and I’ll give it as a Honorable Mention, lack of physical media releases. Since Disney+ came on the scene 5 years ago, they had Disney+ originals and movies and shows made exclusively to Disney+, why not put all of the Disney+ movies and original shows onto physical media rather than subscribing it to Disney+. Look what happened two weeks ago that they started the Password Sharing Crackdown, the same thing Netflix does, and people don’t like it like putting a one-time PIN code, or something which makes it frustrating. And then, a bunch of stuff were gone like “Togo” which is a great film, but it has been released on digital and physical media since people were using Disney+ for 5 years straight, but I hope more movies and shows that were removed might end up going to digital for purchase, or physical media which is not going to happen anytime soon.

For Me, the thing i want to fix about D+ in addition to what you said is with their censorship in the middle east, this has been done on purpose by the management and it is so frustrating, the management of D+ is terrible, we have shows that never get released, shows that are often further pushed back, shows that are missing full seasons, missing episodes, missing films. It's really frustrating to be a subscriber of D+ and going through all because the middle east management head decided on this. Netflix here doesn't censor anything.

Being a us subscriber to Disney+ mainly for doctor who I agree with the Hulu thing cause u would think when they said they were integrating it into Disney+ everyone would get access to the on demand stuff from Hulu but that did happen and my guess as to why is cause they are to scared to ditch the bundle but they seem to forget about Hulu having live tv they could make that the bundle and let everyone have the on demand side of Hulu they wouldn’t have to pay for 3 apps in America if they put Hulu and espn+ on Disney+ for every one and espn could be like the sports on peacock

I agree on everything but ESPECIALLY Hulu merging and Next Day (or rather, SAME DAY) episodes. They are literally doing that with DWTS as a simulcast and now MAX is going to simulcast AEW shows even as they air on TBS / TNT beginning in 2025...

I agree they need upgrade their home screen and hubs what I like to see Disney Plus to improve on a what is leaving soon notice a continue watching option button instead of just clicking the last episode to get rid of it ..bring back the all movies and shows selection since they removed the A-Z all movies and shows they made it harder to find what's on their library a hover over the videos to see the previews kinda like how Netflix does it and of course bring all The classic Disney channel originals / toonsDisney shows and movies that they didn't add to their streaming service like Stanley Aladdin series. not A.I. or they may break the contract with SAG AFTRA but they having Buena Vista Voice International (for Disney Movies, so why not using them for rest as well?) so even other Dubbing Studios if they want global growth, they have to investing not completely saving on all sides and keeping things for the States and or the UK only because of lackness of those rights for dubbing, music and such.

Hi Rodger, I'm sad to hear about the cancellations of Villains of Valley View and Hailey's On It but I'm not surprised. So many of the new Disney Channel original series have been cancelled this year including Pretty Freekin Scary and there are rumours that the ZOMBIES Reanimated Series has also been scrapped after one season. What are your thoughts on all the Disney Channel cancellations and do you think that the new Wizards of Waverley Place spinoff will fare better and get more seasons?

@What’sOnDisneyPlus, I agree with you on the next day thing needing to go away! I’m a huge WWE fan and right now, we have to wait 30 days for the latest episodes of RAW and Smackdown to arrive on services. I don’t understand why it can’t just be it either airs and is immediately put up onto something like a Disney Plus or wherever it’s supposed to do or they simulcast and it’s up immediately. WWE is gonna be able to do that with Netflix beginning in January but until then, we have to wait 30 days? It’s so asinine. Regular tv is becoming less and less what people rely on. The next day thing and “oh you have to wait 30 day rule” is archaic. Even stuff like WWE NXT you have to wait for next day to watch. Ridiculous. There’s rumors that Smackdown will be next day available on Netflix starting in January but still, I don’t get why such an archaic rule is still abided by until then. The problem with the wwe right now in the us is all the contracts have come to an end and Netflix’s new deal doesn’t start till January, so we’ve got a awkward few months till that new deal. Also peacock doesn’t have next day access and from disneys point of view what’s the point of extending a deal for a few months when they know they’ve losing it anyway .

I watched a short by John Campea there seems that Disney removed the Indy SAGA from the Trilogy to the fourth globally as well. I have to check if it is true. Since it was licensed by Paramount it seems to ended in October 1st. If that is true it is heavy nasty maybe because of the final Quarter Call that may come later to save even more Money like they seems to do lately putting things away to save costs. Crazy wild and lame.

@@WhatsOnDisneyPlus yeah perhaps like the Sony Deal with the Spiderman Films. But I don´t get it why they can´t provide multiple Streamers with those content to rather put it away. Maybe they want to put it on Paramount+ but I don´t even know who has or will buy them out have the finally agreed to Skydance and the question would be did they keep the streaming Service or auction their content licensing it to others but still why can´t it be for all. Yeah I guess it is mostly because Disney didn´t want to pay the fees saving money and giving a impression that Disney+ is kinda profitable. But longterm that is a crazy strategy not investing much, just thinking and hoping that they can hold us hardcore fans longer but with giving less. But this can´t hold for too long imo and they should rethink of just carrying mostly for the US instead of globally as well. It is kinda sad how the Company stands at the Moment. Hi roger ☺️ 😊 You know what i realized disney an disney plus doesnt have enough of??? Teen an tween kid commedy sit com shows, series.. Good examples of this would be seires like: austin an alley, stuck in the muddle, good luck Charlie, or dog with a blog, best freinds whenever. Every since disney plus launched, disney has been continuously dwindling these types shows that have been a long running staple of what makes disney, disney. All those years of watching halloween specials, or holiday specials on these type of seires too, all the cross overs they did between the seires, all just, gone.. The only live action disney sitcom thats still up an running now is the new wizards of Waverly place an thats it.. The rest is all animated stuff. So i guess my question is this: do you think the days are just gone for disney fans who like watching disney live action sitcoms?? Weather that be on disney channel or disney plus? Casue they have no plans currently to do any outside of wizards. Atleast thats what the wiki says. Have a great 👍 day 😀

I think the problem is younger audiences aren't interested in those sitcom type shows any more. Younger audiences have millions of other things to entertain them, that format just doesn't work anymore.

The really loud house is currently in really good ratings an is suspected to get a greenlight for season 3. Another live action teen comedy by nickelodeon. An finnally, The Thundermans movie performed so well in the ratings that nickelodeon decided to bring out a spin off series of the long running Thundermnas tv teen comedy sitcom franchise, featuring the 2 younger siblings on the seires. Oh an it's supposed to premire next year. That's 3 live action teen sitcom comedy series all performing well with today's youth. 👌 I believe their is a audience for this type of series, clearly.. I also believe it's something that Disney plus is missing an should have more of. An lastly I disagree with your assessment that theirs just no audience for these types of shows with kids today an that their just to busy doing other things. Cause clearly that's not the case. Disney plus is blantlintly ignoring his demographic of audience members an forgoing whatever it is they could put out like this In favor of catering to other demographics of today's society. The Willow television series was not very good. My favorite episode was the one with the nightmarish flashback to Queen Bavmorda, but the tone was flat, overall.
