I hadn't played soccer in a while and by that I mean hadn't done much exercise at all. So I went and played some soccer with friends and got a huge pain on my knee middle of the game where they had to help me out of the court. Next day bought crutches and even gave my dog to my sister in law cause I couldn't even walk him. Went to a Dr. my brother in law recommended, I did all the MRI's required and he told me I needed surgery as soon as possible cause I had a crack on my meniscus and my ligaments weren't looking good. Also told me I should be in crutches for at least 3 more weeks before surgery. On a hunch, I asked a friend who had prior knee surgery and he gave me the contact for his doctor. So happens both doctors where working together in the same orthopedic clinic but with different offices. Day of my appointment with the 2nd opinion I literarily went by the first doctors office and then along to the 2nd doctor who was right next to his office. 1st doctors looks at me, I say Hi and he says HI and I move along to the other doctor. 2nd doctor looks at MRI tells me I should get out of the crutches and work my knee, do some therapy for 2 months and I should be back in the court in no time. I couldn't believe it, I did exactly what he told me and within a week I was walking normally. So happens that yes, I did have some damage to meniscus and ligaments but my problem was lack of exercise hence my knees where weak. 2nd doctor recommended lots of bicycle on gym or outside and swimming if possible. 3 years later on my 40th bday and I can still play soccer with friends with no surgery required and I always make sure to be fit for playing after long time of being sitting on my ass not exercising else I don't touch the court. Moral of the story: always get a 2nd even 3rd opinion, your wallet and time will thank you for it!

A lot of doctors really are egocentric and get all butt-hurt and nasty when you don't take their medical advice as.gospel. (A lot.of college-educated people are like that.)

Yea there's some truth in that. Mabey not this obvious but you the longer you talk to some, it becomes apparent. No one looks for a second set of facts, it's called an opinion for a reason. For many things there isn't a clear cut answer with zero nuance attached.

IF YOU ARE A DOCTOR PLEASE READ THIS; See, as a low income American, I will explain why we always want second opinions. Do you see how both of these doctors make good points at first? They both seem informative, knowledgeable and professional. The problem is YOU ..THE DOCTORS ..go against each others advice WAY WAY more often than you all may realize. In fact it happens all the time. ..and our lives, our quality of life, our survival and our livelihood are at stake. You are basically playing God, and we as your fellow humans trust you to heal us. When you go against each other like this it scares the fucking shit out of us. What are we suppose to do? We aren't trained and we are terrified. Who do we believe? Next time your patient wants a second opinion, please be understanding. It's not our fault. Ps; Ever since covid, your bedside manners have been absolutely horrific.
