Based on how the season had went, I was skeptical about the finale, but I really enjoyed it. Only thing I hated was Bellamy being dead. I felt like Bellamy leading Cadogan's army and being the one to tell them to put down their weapons after Octavia's speech would have been more emotional with him than someone we didn't really know.

This was a special series that I never missed an episode. Clarke made a bad mistake thinking she could get revenge & stop the test at the same time. She was kinda right calling out the aliens in eliminating a species if they fail the test instead of just denying them transcendence. The aliens remind me of Marvel’s Celestials that seed planets & generations later come back to judge them. Clarke gets her penance but at least she won’t die alone. Great job Geek on all the reviews for this show.
@WhattheGeek4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Sunstar, it has been a pleasure. Clarke does not do right there IMO for just one reason, she was not doing it do right, you know intent is my issue, her intention was to blame someone else for it all, like she was always right, her reasoning has always been right. I did feel so bad for her though nonetheless.
@Sunstar8084 жыл бұрын
What the Geek I’m in agreement
@m.c.martin4 жыл бұрын
David Stairs I had a large reply, but I consider it more on an ethical basis. What Lexa/Judge tells Clarke about her decisions was Pain for Pain, meaning everything thing she did was reflected back to her. That’s basically Karma. So everything that happened to her was justified, so long as she justified her wrong doings as just. The first test was love, and Clarke proved to be Selfish instead of Selfless (The act of Kindness and Love). She killed Bill for Revenge, for nearly killing Madi, but that’s why the Judge asked her if Madi was dead. Clarke lied, but then justified it. Like it or not, a contradiction during the test or argument essentially fails you automatically. Clarke is essentially Danny from GOT where she see’s herself as the hero, but isn’t. Clarke did what SHE thought was good, not what was actually good on the basis of Ethics and Morals. She even accused the Judge of having her own agenda. Clarke in no way showed she was capable of loving anyone other then herself. Basically according to the Judge, justifying a crime doesn’t make it any less of one, because it is still a wrong. Right and wrong is just as objective as “Good is a Point of View, Anakin” - Chancellor Palpatine, but what mattered in the first test was Love, not right or wrong. Clarke never truly felt bad for what she did, “I did what I had to,” when that’s not true. She jumped the gun at Mount Weather is a prime example. Had she truly felt bad and wanted say “Forgiveness” then she might have gotten a pass. Clarke basically failed the test before it began, since she wasn’t even willing to see Bill’s side of things. Hence selfishness. There’s a good lesson in the Finale, it’s just that most people didn’t see it that way. Love is being able to let go, and not hold on, being able to see the other persons side of things, even if you disagree. The Test of Love was basically a test of sympathy and forgiveness, and like it or not, Clarke is neither.
@m.c.martin4 жыл бұрын
David Stairs Maybe the Prequel will answer that
@oaktreedialogues63184 жыл бұрын
M.C.Martin Official Channel I don’t think Clarke failed so much because of her selfishness, but rather because of her lack of repentance and humility. She never really regrets anything, never questioning really if she did not have a choice. She did have hard choices, but they were still choices. She chose genocide. So her people to survive. Yet, although she feels that was morally wrong, she never confessed that to be a mistake. She never once considered her own limited ability to imagine and make better decisions. So she says: i would do it again! I think that is what failed her. Her decision to blame others and circumstances for her decisions and her inability to question her own failures in judgment. That said, this was one thing I really enjoyed about the show: leaders making hard decisions and sometimes making horrendous mistakes, but still, as leaders they keep on and take the burden of taking decisions nevertheless.

Bellamy already felt the inner peace when he saw a hallucination in form of his (mother) while in the cave and decided to go with shepherd for everyone's trancendence or peace. Honestly, all we needed was a throw away line / scene where Cadogen mentions that Bellamy is almost dead, but he put him in the stasis pod, saying that as long as he lives, he can transcend. Then Bellamy can join the group at the end.

I couldn't agree more on your thoughts about Clarke!!! She was always presented as the great hero of the show and the one person everyone should look up to, but I always thought her decisions were reckless and the aftermath was always the worst possible. The fact that Raven didn't give up once Clarke failed and she saved them all (along with Octavia) was the best part of the episode in my opinion. I also loved Memori's scene in their mindspace... Murphy's evolution was so satisfying to watch, and in the end he saved the love of his life by putting the mindrive in his head.That was just perfect!
@WhattheGeek4 жыл бұрын
The premise to start with that out of all of these people is capable is a premise I hate. It is how dictators stay in power, because there is always the statement, "What other option do we have? One of the things that truly killed me about this season finale is that they imply there’s no afterlife. We have spent a lot of time heading “may we meet again”, but the truth is our characters won’t ever get that. I especially get sad when I think about Lincoln’s death scene, him kneeling in the mud and wishing in Trig that “may [he and octavia] meet again”. That will never happen now, and it makes me sad. Clarke will never see her mom and dad, and Wells, and Finn, and of course Lexa. It’s ultimately life without hope.
@luiza1014 жыл бұрын
Actually, since Octavia decided not to transcend, there's still hope for her and Lincoln. Lexa (the test) said they wouldn't join them - who have transcended -, so when Octavia dies her afterlife might be alongside Lincoln's.

I was kind of hoping for now the aliens were even given their power to judge humanity, because Clarke wasn’t wrong talking to Lexa in human form. They were being hypocritical. How did they get to their place & why was Becca kneeling. The aliens looked totally harmless. Were the aliens Bardoans as they had access to Gen-9 or what? That part felt rushed, whereas everyone’s arc ended well, no deaths for mains or recurring. Everyone go their happy ending and sacrificed for Clarke actually as we all most thought her to sacrifice herself for everyone.
@lolihentai14634 жыл бұрын
Okay, first thing. They arent bardoans, they wiped bardoans because they didnt pass the test. The race that created test is propably first inteligent species that reached transcendence in some way and allowed others to transcend in form of creating stones. For why Becca was kneeling- I can think of two things. She didnt know anything, unlike Bill, so aliens propably showed her what happens if she fails. Second thing is seeing A.L.I.E as her biggest mistake, which mentally feared her. I bet on first, seeing entire humanity being wiped out would be scary

Also what is so special about transcendence and why do they accept it so willingly when they were so against it just last episode? It seems like its just the city of light but more organic and not tech, throughout the whole show they talk about how death is inevitable but clearly its not because you can transcend and live forever.. idk lots of weird things but all in all still an enjoyable finale and could have been much worse

It's up to your interpretation. The "high-being" here is not necessarily "good" so you can't hold them to the same standard. They just happen to be more advanced and capable of making such decision. this ending is the best ending to ANYTHING ive seen so far, it makes so much sense on so many levels that were right in front of us the whole time, at first it really felt like a curve ball, "what transcendence really? i thought the show was about post apocalyptical survival" thats just it we were wrong from the start, the show, the whole time, was about humanity's test to transcend and its very poetic but besides the writing is beautiful and smart, sad, pleasant... and they choosing to start with her at the end, just made my heart melt, truly wonkru, one family.

Clark ruined it. If dead people can't transcend then how can a dead night blood transcendent inside Murphy's head? Killed BELOMY for NOTHING! Man just wanted to help. Serial killers rewarded with one consciousness is bull
@ccricers4 жыл бұрын
@David Stairs They probably didn't start it until season 6 when the first anomaly stone was introduced. It was easy to add that retroactively with Second Dawn, introducing what caused the divide between Cadogan's followers and the people that eventually became grounders
@oaktreedialogues63184 жыл бұрын
Actually, I liked how they presented transcendence not as a religious experience, but rather as this interaction with this alien species, inviting us (with a gun to our head) to their dimension. It’s a real cool way to introduce aliens, not as humanoids creatures but something else, out of this world.

I’m curious, when it came to killing the grounders at the drop ship and the people of mount weather, what other choice did Clarke have? Those choices were for her people, but anything else likely would have resulted in their deaths....I don’t think it’s fair to be judged for survival. Everything regarding protecting Maddy, yeah other choices could have been made, I’ll give you that, but not the others that made her “Wanheada”...just mho

To choose to kill an entire society for a few bad leaders even if they had a few of your people captured is purely immoral. You play God, you decide that your people are more worthy than others, and there is always a way. You see it that way because it was written with her doing that, but I remember watching them I thought of like at least 1 other way.
@andreawashington49774 жыл бұрын
What the Geek a valid point...and was a no win situation, do you honestly think you could live with the decision to let your people die because the other choice was just as horrible, or perhaps slightly less horrible? So to do nothing would give the people murdering your people not only the lives they are currently taking, but the remainder of your people as well, because they would not have stopped. They’d already proven to completely disregard the value of anyone else’s life other than their own. They refused to compromise....bone marrow transfusions that didn’t have to kill her people...so was she really play God?

I didn't much care for this final season as a whole, I feel it was a bit rushed and inorganic. They added a bunch of unnecessary characters and neglected quite a few favorites in the process. I'm not happy about Bellamy's death, but I understand why it happened and accept it (also Bob Morley was off doing another project so they had to find something to do with his character, let's keep that in mind...). With all that said, I believe they wrapped things up rather nicely--the message comes across loud and clear with the writing as well as Octavia's speech was beautiful. The only other thing I wish they would have delved into a bit more was these judges, these higher beings. Who are they, why are they important and why does their opinion matter? I suppose one could argue that it is irrelevant and let that be that, but I'm also curious about "all the other species who have transcended before." What were these species and why are these higher powers collecting them all? All in all this series was very metaphysical and spiritual and is my all-time favorite
@GamingOfPotus4 жыл бұрын
i was thinking the same about the higher power thing, and how we didn't get to see the other side, I think that this might have been done so a sequel is on the table if they decide to in the future

It was rushed, and in turn fell flat. They should have left all the Sheidheda nonsense out and done more build up to this ending. Didn't feel like all ghee ground work was properly laid. I honestly feel like the series could've ended Season 5 and the first 10 minutes of S6Ep1... but it was nice getting to Octavia come full circle and know her fight is over, but before not because of death. All in all I'm not upset, slightly disappointed I had bigger visions and thought we were being set up for a timeline reset, but that doesn't mean any of that would've been better. Wish they'd spent more time on goodbyes and wish Bellamy's exit meant more...I guess that's life though...

The 100 is a really great show, and this finale was well written and acted. The character development of the show, imho, is what makes it stand out as a great show. Ya’know... here’s my issue with this whole big transcendence plot-line that drew The 100 to a close, it just, didn’t feel like The 100? How on EARTH did we go from just landing on the earth with the remaining human population, to being left with a handful of people who can’t even reproduce as the grand finale? Before people start shooting me down this is my *opinion* okay dudes? I just have a really hard time believing this is the direction they ended up taking with the show. I feel as if season 6 and 7 almost didn’t need to happen and we could have concluded at 5. It truly didn’t help that Bob was only there for a short period of time and due to those circumstances Bellamy died - worst ending for a character I’ve seen in awhile. I get it, he had a lot of personal stuff to deal with that’s for sure but the writers didn’t have to do what they did. I’ll say it over and over again, but this final season truly reminded me of the same downfall Game of Thrones took with their own final season. I just wanted and expected more and unfortunately this is what we got 😞 To those of y’all who enjoyed this season that’s great, but if anyone wants to suffer with me over this whack ass last season lemme know LOL

Second comment : murphy and emori are such a beautiful couple and their love was so strong that I actually kinda guessed that if one of them die the other would take the other mind drive ;) What murphy did with the mind drive was also like "closing the circle" about the mind drive/flame/AI, murphy was there in the scene where lexa died which was the first time we saw the flame being removed from a body. Over the years, the series has put so much weight on the fact that this advanced technology was like a bit surnatural and dangerous that we forgot that it could be used for a very simple purpose : trying to save or be with those we love the most! which is indeed what murphy did and as we know he unknowingly ended up saving them both bc transcendence was coming. Just poetic! :)

IMO this final season just should have never happened the way it did. It just completely jumped the shark - I get what the writers tried doing - but up to season 6, the themes in the show (an arc in space, artificial intelligence, a virtual afterlife, the Flame, mind drives, etc.) could be possible in real life with advanced technology. Season 7 delving into the supernatural/spiritual world and the existence of a higher power or deity was just bizarre. As a huge fan of the show, to say that season 7 was a disappointment is an understatement. I am not even sure I want the prequel to happen knowing that everyone is just going to end up as balls of light or dying as the last generation of humans on Earth.

Actually here is what I think. I am not a believer in what they did, definitely not the way they did it, that some alien race out there would be the judge. But not believing in it does not mean I am not willing to accept it as part of a story from someone else's perspective. Moral of the story is and without prolonging this comment, because I have got like 200 more to respond to: This is the story they wanted to tell, it doesn't have shit to do with my beliefs or yours, and you have got to watch it realizing it is your perspective not yours or mine, a deity or not.

Thanks so much for your amazingly on-point reviews of this series over the seasons - always the first ones I came to. I have always appreciated your focus on story-telling and character development and feel this is where The 100's huge strengths have lied which kept me coming back. Yes it's apocalyptic fiction, but throughout larger themes of humanity have been put under the microscope and Jason usually did a phenomenal job of that if you ask me, as well as a main cast who understood the show, its messages and their own personas and roles so brilliantly. I am very sad the end of one of my favourite shows ever has happened but glad they wrapped it up in a mostly thoughtful way. I like how the twists made us rightly question Clarke's presumed 'hero' status and let other side-heroines (mixtures of optimal intelligence, physical aptitude and, crucially, an ability to be humble about past mistakes) turn out to be those who best represented what saved the last of the race and let us evolve. They were pretty much my two ultimate favourites alongside Murphy with his profoundly rich arc so this was very fitting. My main little frustration is (as others are saying) about how the significance of the 'May we meet again' mantra would have leant itself so well to even dead characters being able to choose to reunite on the beach and live out the rest of their lives as the last humans there together... The curiosity mentioned by judge Lexa ends up being confirmed that our race peculiarly would always choose to spend finite lives with the ones we have loved (and in this version lost as well) instead of choosing eternal and pain-free existence. The full circle start and end message would have made even more sense, as already implied by the starting again to build the last human civilisation on Earth as they thought they were doing initially in season 1, with the fair caveat of knowing it would be the end of humans as they were due to no further breeding. This would also have made perfect sense whereby The 100 would have finished doing their job of being the 'vessels' for the rest of the race's salvation, departing from the 'war begets war, selfishness begets selfishness' conclusions, and our beloved cast members get to see out their days as our last 'respresentatives' in the way the unevolved but fiercely (sometimes too) loving our race had become.

Well the may we meet again was a human created mantra without knowledge of what would come in the future, they did not believe in anything specific, did not know how it would work. And from another perspective it actually worked for the best, most of the people it has been said to will join an afterlife with those who died before them because they are either already dead or they made it back from transcendence to be with Clarke.

The purple skies scene was influenced somewhat from the movie "Contact" (Novel by Carl Sagan).❤️ I feel that the Series ending could have been so much better than what it was. They played the emotional card here and did not answer so many things, I guess it weren't supposed to be answered (like in the movie" Contact" too) and to leave it open ended. But that is deviating from the original premise of the series, where most sci-fi or paranormal (seemed like) things are explained properly and that there is no magic or fantasy in the show, but in the finale they deviate from it again by introducing the "transcendence" plot which is totally against the nature of the entire show (even though they've been building it from last few episodes). The concept of higher beings and they judging us just seems poorly written, rushed and plot hole ridden, but than every show has some plot holes, it is how it makes us feel in the end that matters, right? One big problem though, the ending made it feel like it is a Clarke show more than it is the 100. Other than this I pretty much liked the finale. A good twist in the finale, perhaps no one predicted this to happen. But for what it is worth and the time they had it to complete it was indeed beautifully done. Very good series but not a super amazing finale !👍 Edit: posted this comment (my thoughts, opinion) without watching the video yet, now that I've watched it, I feel we can agree on a lot of things about this Finale.

This was a beautiful ending! I am glad they got a good ending at and ended up basically back where they started as a bunch of friends at a campsite. :-) We got to see Murphy grow enough to care about someone other than just Emori. And I'm very glad we got to see Octavia be a badass one last time. And that she got a good ending with someone who understood and loved her. I am also glad we got to see Abby and Lexa one last time. My only complaint is that the ending felt a bit empty without Bellamy there to riff off Clarke

What the Geek well the theory of the great filter states that any space bearing species or highly advanced species will hit a bump that either they keep going or the entire specifies is wiped out. But also it could be a “test” just like we saw in the final episode. But the great filter has many names and many different meanings so it could be a “last war” also. Idk just a theory.

I've been following you this season as I binged the 1st 6 seasons and it was nice to find some one talking about this show while I suffered through week waits, then a 2 week break and a 3 week break with a "poor writing for Bellamy" mixed in. However, minus a bit of S5, I am team Clarke and always disagree with your views on her, specifically. I can see why you believe what you do but I guess I am wired different, I am so pro Clarke overall. My favorite scene is a combo of her just bossing through the remaining disciples, popping that sociopathic narcissist Cadogan and then telling the full of themselves "higher beings" to go take a flying leap. I enjoyed the finale overall, thought the theology shoved down our throats was a bit silly and the last scene, while making me smile was a bit....cheesy. Thanks for the recaps may we meet again!
@WhattheGeek4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately what you see as her telling the full of themselves higher beings whatever, I see as her finding one more way not to admit any fault ever. As a person who finds it easy to admit fault when I am at fault, find it part of improving and learning over time, personal development, I find that approach to be a wrong approach, especially when it is used with terrible decisions, in one instance genocide.
@myrlin74 жыл бұрын
@@WhattheGeek Kinda cool actually. We believe things similiarly but come up with completely different view points. (That's why the show is so good) I definitely agree on the fault thing in every day life. We choose our actions regardless of external input. However, to me, the beings represent a black or white view with no regard to emotion. It's great to have an objective view but the same decision, in a different set of circumstances could be right or wrong. At the end of the day, the world is way to grey for absolutes.

Technically a haploid gamete has no consciousness until it is joined by another haploid gamete to create the zygote and so those humans were not there to be transcended because they did not exist yet.... just like the dead no longer existed so by that there should be no problem creating new humans - I am assuming the others can’t have kids because they were already transcended and thus fundamentally changed on a physical level. But Clarke and the embryos were not and there is tons of DNA from the dead... technically you could probably still harvest sperm from Bellamy and one of his kids could be born although that is a bit icky - anyway this is all theoretical but entirely plausible.

I honestly have a love hate relationship with the finale. I hate how they turned Bellamy into what they did. I hate how Clarke killed Bellamy just for them to go around and find out everything about Madi anyways. I hate how they ended things with Madi, but at the same time it was really sweet but sad but frustrating. Overall this was an amazing show, I really don't like the ending and how everyone just turns to light, like they don't even slightly explain what it was like in the light or whatever. In the end season 7 made me cry the most out of all the seasons, by a long shot.
@johnsnow27564 жыл бұрын
This will be on the long side but please bear with me. I will start by saying that this was a good finale and it tied a lot of loose ends. The way I see it this is probably one of the darkest ends of a show that I can think of. Basically a very advanced alien species has come up with a plan to conquer/assimilate the entire universe. Wherever they find any traces of intelligent life, they leave behind "portal stones" . When a race becomes advanced enough to translate them (and perhaps pose a threat to them in the future) they give out two options : you join us if you pass the test or all of you die (sounds similar to "you're either wonkru or the enemy of wonkru"). Let me point out that option #3 of figuring out the code and deciding as a society to Never activate the stone is only a mirage of an option. Once to code is figured out , you have to hope that all the people in a position of power will abstain from using it, through pain and loss and suffering, staying strong for eternity. Yea that won't work in any form of government. One curious/selfish/suffering leader ? -> assimilated or death One bad vote in a democracy? -> assimilated or death. One guy with a different agenda getting access to code and stone? -> assimilated or death. If a society is in a good place where they can actually choose and send an ambasdor that the majority deems worthy , it probably is the optimal strategy to go and take the test as soon as possible . That yields the highest chances of ever passing, even if you decided as a society not to take the test, just because as time passes the risk of someone less worthy getting access increases. I also want to point out that the test is designed to attract selfish people most of the time. Once you know the rewards and consequences and that it is a test of character, the truly pure of heart people are more likely to decline waging the entire future of their race , underestimating their worth and thus their chances of passing , while the selfish will overestimate their chances. We should also discuss the moral implications of a single person being judged on behalf of everyone, and killing their entire species if this single person fails. Does this kind of test seem devised by benevolent godlike, peaceful creatures ? Having all this in mind (we'll talk sterilization later as it wasnt available info at the time) Clarke actually played the test close to optimal . What I consider perfect strategy in this situation: Clarke pleads more for a stop and redo of the test in the future, even after the judge said it can't be done .She tries to explain that the original ambasador was trying to take the test for selfish reasons and that he did not have the support of everyone. Then she admits her mistakes and shortcomings and begs , saying that we can do better and if we really are beyond redemption then our children or children's children will do better. After all these fail and the judge keeps telling her that the test must continue she puts the gun to her head and says "I'll pull the trigger if it stops the test" . The judge tells her that this will only make her fail and doom her race. Then given the info she's got about the test it actually is optimal to start trash talking the test and point out how it's unethical and flawed. Basically if the aliens are evil ,or if your morals don't align with theirs, if they actually believe that the test they devised is fair and just, you're screwed either way, you die or you get assimilated. At this point your best bet is to assume the beings are benevolent and that the Real Test is to point out how unfair and morally corrupt the concept of the initial test is . The real test being about sticking to your morals even in the face of promised immortality, refusing to kiss their asses and pointing out how flawed their test is , that would have been beautiful writing ! I would have liked to see less mental gymnastics justifying her actions and more of the above from Clarke but she did point out that the test was total bullshit and that is the main thing in the optimal strategy. Then we learn that violence is really a turn off for the aliens . (Which is pretty hypocritical since they have been killing entire species since the dawn of time , being the most violent species that ever existed). This only makes sense when you think that they will kill whatever species that is advanced and violent enough to pose a threat to them. And we arrive at the end where Clarke is allowed to live and we learn that people can refuse transcendence and come back. This rule makes them seem more benevolent , but in reality it allows them to save face , appear as mighty beings while allowing people that weren't in total harmony with their beliefs(possible posing a threat from the inside) to get out. Oh and they also sterilized the people that came back. Like what the fuck is up with that ? "Your people already gave us great things but you're not worthy of transcending(understandable) and we also have a gut feeling that all of your descendants will be useless human beings just as yourselves (wait this doesn't seem so benevolent) I would say that the aliens just didn't want humanity posing a threat to them any time in the future, but since these advanced aliens know that 14 people is way way lower than the minimum viable population needed to survive as a species , I'd say it's just a subtle hint of what their intentions truly are and how dark this finale really is. I want to end pointing out that there are indeed are some similarities between what we envision as Transcendence/Singularity/Heaven and HiveMind/being assimilated. We have to judge this state of being by the quality if its maker. Judging by how morally corrupt and unjust their behaviour, test and punishments are , honestly this screams to me a lot like the City of Light , Hivemind, Borg like universe conquerers than a "unity of souls" that we envision heaven as in different religions. I would also like to point out that the aliens admitted to Cadogan that they are not gods.They just have the tech to be immortal and they collect other species if they would make suitable additions. Saying that the new humans that transcended are of good use (paraphrasing) sounded kind of creepy (we wouldn't imagine a god figure saying somethig like that: "Yea this new batch of souls we just got are really helping us in a major way"). Also when asked if Madi was with them the judge replied "in a matter of speaking /in a way" (paraprasing again) . This also sounded pretty creepy. "Death is life" has been one of the mottos of the show and in the end it was chosen by 14 people. This is sometimes percieved wrongly as choosing death instead of accepting death. It was beautifully portrayed by them, choosing to live and accepting to eventually die their way, refusing the mirage of immortality. The rest of the human race ended up assimilated , used as a resource for eternity. On a happier note , we started the show with each of them unlikely to hit their next birthday , and while humanity was consumed by the borg at least 14 of them got to live and die on their terms.

Doesnt matter if it was bad or not. This episode brought tears. Seeing Lexa after 4 years, seeing Abby for the last time after her death in season 6 finale and that Octavia was pretty much the hero of this finale. Sure there are probably some questions like who "the judge" really is or "why does the anomaly stone exist in the first place" I hope we can see some of those questions answered in prequel because we do know that Becca went through the portal and came back because she did see the "test". All in all, this episode was great. The entire season was pretty emotional, but IMO nothing really beats the season 5 ending, it was honestly beautiful.
