Every time a horn honks in Vietnam an angel gets its wings. It's a wonderful life if you can deal with imperfect beings in an imperfect world. I saw the horrors of the Vietnam War and was petrified of returning in 2015 after leaving wounded in 1968. I found it to be a different country that I learned to love for the beautiful people and their culture. I left before the lockdown in 2020 and I hope to return and see my friends again soon. Vietnam will always have a place in my heart. Cam on Vietnam.

I was there in 1967-68 also, as a Marine. You and I had a different perspective then, and now we are old warriors looking back at an epic time of pain and suffering, and all I can say is all wars are terrible, and I wish only the best for the Vietnamese people going forward in peace.

That's such an amazing thing to be a part of something so terrible and now something so amazing. I really do understand how you feel about Vietnam. I currently work for the Western Australian government. Good money, good perks. But I've lost sight of what's the most important. Every time I've come back from Vietnam I'm a changed man for the better. It doesn't take me long to get bitter and twisted when I'm back in Australia.

I am an American who has lived in Hanoi for over 2 years. During that time I have been in 5 accidents on the roads, people constantly invade my space, the noise is, at times, unbearable and I can see the air and smell the water every time I go outside. That being said, moving to Vietnam is the best decision I have ever made and I have no plans to ever return to America or live anywhere else.

I’m thinking about expatting, too. Vietnam and Taiwan are both in the top 2. America is no longer a country for old men. The moral laws in my country have been sold out to the FED and those who follow another code. I can’t speak my word or my account will be canceled. One day soon, here in America you will be charged and arrested for anti Semitism because of what “they feel” and define who you are. I’m the hell out of here. Great Video! Used to be in the travel business, been to 93 countries. I now spend most (not all) of my time in Vietnam, Hai Phong. Why? People! The Vietnamese are wonderful people once you get to know them. One piece of advice though. Avoid the main tourism places. The rip offs there are getting as bad as in Thailand, especially in Saigon and Hoi An. Come and explore Vietnam....and enjoy the friendliness, incredible openness of the Vietnamese! You'll be glad you did, and I want to assure you that you will want to return.

Living in Saigon for already a year personally could say: 1. Adopting to noise was quite easy 2. Very funny moment in video about: you just say "blablabla" and that's it. Saying correct phrase in Vietnamese is the MOST difficult thing here by far!!! 3. Got used to traffic in Saigon, i drive faster then average local, but it's still some stress always.. Other cities are way better in that. Bike taxi is cheap though. 4. Don't really see that much trash over the Vietnam. 5. Pollution IS an issue. But for Hanoi and a bit less for Saigon. P.S. VanVu is a real stunner!

Totally fascinating (succinct) analyses. Thanks for posting. I fell hard in love with your country at the start of the pandemic -- was on my way to the Philippines (from the U.S.) with just a 2-week stopover planned in Vietnam -- then...the pandemic struck!!! -- I was put in an army barracks for 2-weeks in HCMC (strangely, very enjoyable, and...strange) -- and the doors on the Philippines shut for good, but I was able to spend the next 5 months in Vietnam (Nha Trang, mostly) and was just really...smited? with how lovely, warm, complicated, challenging, and...frankly amazing Vietnam is. Now...now that borders have reopened, I'm returning (in May), to...of all things, study Vietnamese. (Big gush, this). Just really enjoyed your presentation. Thanks again. Cheers!

I have to say that I enjoyed living in the smaller towns like Trang Bang and Long Thanh more. It's not so noisy and air pollution is not such a big problem. The downside is that very few people understand English and it's a lot more "primitive" with very few shops/eateries catering for foreigners. (then again I did grow up in London which isnt exactly quiet! maybe its just an age thing now) everything else I just accept as it is the way it is... love it or leave it really... at the moment or future will be just half of the yr at most and can come back home to my peace and quiet when I need it... but right now I can't wait to come back to that amazing country I fell in love with...

I enjoyed this. I liked Vietnam, everything about it. Those little negatives, things happen in every country so i can look pass that. I probably would try and avoid the big cities if i were to stay long term or try to stay on the outskirts. I can also confirm your point 2. That happened to me at the airport in Nha Trang and i was too shocked to even say something. There was nobody behind me. I was there 20 years ago and could really have moved there the following year had things not changed for me. Absolutely loved it

I like your presentation, because always you speak truth. Without cleanliness and systematic traffic system, tourism must be effected.

I'm managing a foreign company in Tay Ninh. I love the atmosphere of the locals socializing including beer-drinking sessions but I was kinda annoying after they got drunk, simply troublemakers, of course, this could be an isolated case

Im enjoying your videos on Vietman very much. I am looking for a getaway for two to three months a year, when it's winter in Canada. Im just watching your video here and I am wondering if the air condition is going to be a problem for me. Im loving so much about Vietnam but I have asthma, Im not affected by it here too much so its not dibilitating but I am wondering if you think I may have a problem with the pollution in Vietnam.....

Step 1: Don't go to noisy bars, don't live near a main road. Step 2: Don't need to stand in line, just get a takeaway. Step 3: Don't drive on the roads at busy times like rush hour. Step 4: Frequent the nicer areas, less trash. Step 5: Buy an air purifier for your home. Easy!

The Philippines are similar in some ways. They burn trash for one. Lots of motorbikes, really terrible traffic. They have a lot of tiny houses made of bamboo and palm frons in the rural areas they call province. Many of those houses have no electricity or inside running water. They use a bucket of water to bathe or wash clothes. Also outside toilets they call a comfort room or just CR. Some of their food is disgusting, such as balut. Balut is a duck egg with a little fuzzy duck inside, dead of course. It tastes terrible and when I saw the dead duckling I felt ill the rest of the day. Dry fish also called stinky fish is terrible too. But when you grow up with it, it tastes great. How was your Christmas? Happy New Year my dear. 🌹🌹🌹
