It really moved me to hear you say you were going to stick with Miss A. As a fellow human being I thank you. Young, first home buyers here in Australia are being outbid by wealthier citizens, be that investors (including overseas investors) or 2nd/3rd home owners, or baby boomer retirees who are downsizing with cash in hand. It’s been heartbreaking to see owning a home has become a privilege and not a basic human right in our country. The housing market in Australia is a disaster.

When we sold our home we were given a few offers. We examined all their credentials and went with the lowest bidder since they were the least risk. I commend you for not taking the offer after you gave your word to Ms. A. We need more kindness in the world. Congratulations on the sale.

I am SOOO happy for you...for your buyer and for your new place!! Thankfully, you ARE disciplined. I love the way you think, Viv. I sold my 1628 sq ft home of 50 years on Sept 22nd and am now downsized to a 527 ft apt in a senior living facility. It was a grueling few months of decluttering, purging, selling, donating, etc. I hope you have TONS of help moving...especially all your beloved books. Going down a flight of stairs with them will be brutal.

Fabulous news!! Congratulations on both fronts!! 🙂 I'm with you, I'd have turned down the higher offer. When I sold my house earlier in the Summer I accepted a slightly lower offer from a young couple who were starting out on their married life and wanting a family. They were renting so were in a better position to move without a chain. It's not always about the money. And yep still unpacking boxes 4 months later!! 🙂

In the last two years, I have sold my house 4 times. Each time it has fallen through. This time just two days ago, got through right to last minute. My town was flooded. All of the schools were closed. Some of the shops were closed. The brook across my house was flooded but thankfully my house is ok. Sadly some of the houses in my town got flooded. The village next to us was flooded so bad and no one was allowed to enter. It was crazy. Glad that you were staying safe.

Oh how sad.......flooding can be so devastating and such a heartache for folk trying to get their home sorted and dry again. 😢
