My baby was adopted. I didn't ask my parents opinion, but after I already started the process my Mom asked why I didn't ask their opinion, she was hoping I would keep him. But I'm a person that keeps to her word, so he was adopted. He's in a loving family, they take great care of him, and have adopted another baby, he's a big brother and the two boys just love each other and I have a relationship with the parents too. It was the best decision I made for him.
@StevieM24 жыл бұрын
Just because an expectant mother has planned out an adoption that does not mean she is under any obligation to follow through with it after the child is born. Plenty of new moms realize that they cannot part with their child and call the adoption off. There is nothing wrong with that. We should not take the position that a mother has to "keep to her word" and "not break the adoptive parents hearts." Actually, until the adoption happens it is not appropriate to call them adoptive parents, they are prospective adoptive parents. Acting as if they are already the parents is coercive, as is calling the pregnant woman a birth mother before the adoption is finalized.
@TerpTheBandit3 жыл бұрын
@@StevieM2 Not sure I'd ever trust someone who devalues the significance of one's word just to virtue signal for women. Lol Just saying, dude, the essence of your argument is choice, yet you went out of your way to tell this woman her choice could have been different, like she didn't know that. Or maybe you're concerned about precedent, in which case, why are you concerned about one faceless person valuing their word more than any desire they might have had to raise their child themselves? Hardly seems precedent-setting.
@StevieM23 жыл бұрын
@@TerpTheBandit I am deeply concerned about women and girls believing that they are somehow morally obligated to surrender their children to others because it would be wrong to go back on their originally stated intention. Prospective adoptive parents must understand going in that there is no guarantee of a completed adoption and that it is quite possibly not going to happen. And women should not be made to feel guilty if they ultimately cannot part with their own child. It is not their responsibility to "not break the hearts" of the prospective adoptive parents. My comment was not written for one faceless person on the internet. It was written for anyone who might be reading it. Coerced adoptions are all too common in this country, and my comment was designed to encourage people to reject one of the most frequently recurring examples of that coercion.

This is a hard one for me. I had a son at 17 and another at 18. I'm not saying it was easy. I did everything I could to give them everything. I like to say the love especially turned them into who they are today. One college student. One a firefighter. Both concentrating on their careers. I get compliments all the time on how sweet and good they are. I take pride in that, I did it alone for the most part. But, I had to work two jobs to support them in the first 5 years. So I had to leave them often and that broke my heart and to this day, I still feel guilty I couldn't be with them all the time. When I was, I gave them 100pecent. But I do wish I could have given them more of me. They are such great young men now and I couldn't be more proud.

My mom got pregnant at 15 had her baby at 16 and you know where she is now? She is a registered nurse and my dad who was also young at the time (obviously) is now an office manager. And that baby my older sister is going to school for cosmetology then at 17 she had my second sister and at 20 she had my brother then 21 she had me. There were tough times then when I was kid and there were times where we had nothing to eat but bread but my parents never gave up and worked hard to get where they are. I dont agree with teen pregnancy but if you really work hard to get where you want to be you can still achieve it mother/father or not.

Tbh, it's not like the pregnant teen would be the one to pay the kids bills. To the parents, that's another mouth to feed. My brother got his girlfriend pregnant during highschool. They kept her, and my parents were hella mad at first but they accepted it even before the kid was born. They love my nieve but thing is, THEY (and the parents of the girlfriend) pay for everything, and takes care of the baby when my bro at school. It gets tiring for them too, I mean they already have 4 kids to feed, and the additional of my niece was hard. We loved her nonetheless, but the struggle was always there

Me too, because it's none of my business and I'm not a mother. But on the inside, I would agree with the parents and hope she gets an open adoption so that she can still be a part of her child's life. The only difference is, she'd be sharing the responsibilities with a family that's better equipped to handle them. In my opinion, people should wait until they're at least 18 or older, mature and in a stable relationship, with a good job and a suitable place to live, before having kids and even at 18 some people are immature. But, stuff happens sometimes and the people who are responsible have to deal with that. I'm glad that's not happening in my family.
@f0rever16 жыл бұрын
Me too. The parents are right and 16 is way too young to have those kind of responsibilities and besides, why was she pregnant in the first place? Oh right, pregnant teens be disobeying their parents 24/7. It's her fault and they should listen to their parents this time around

@Nicole well usually in america or western cultures u would see teens actually having sex and ending up getting pregnant at a young age which is wrong cause there are things meant for different age groups me as an asian have always been taught that, we dont have sex education classes in school and all we have been brought up with good values from our cultures which we r very grateful for. and i feel very bad knowing that there are girls getting raped in many parts of the world and have no choice

Honestly, American culture and Western culture in general is way too sexualized. It is actually horrific and the effect of bad media.

However, I still disagree with labeling someone as having "no honor". I do not think that is the case in Iran, but I am not sure.

That's sad. Indonesia and the United States are so different than Peru. In Peru teen mothers are treated with kindness and respect and much support. It's a stark difference for sure. I was 19 and married when I gave birth to my first child but moving to America as a "teen mom" opened my eyes to just how judgmental and awful people are here. There's this weird dichotomy of sex being this thing that's pushed so much in media/movies in the USA but young pregnancy and parenthood is so evil and taboo. It makes no sense.

To add on to what the first lady said, you also have to think about the people who might later get the baby. They could be going through something difficult and having another adoption fall through could be really difficult.
