Agreed! I've worked in retail for a LONG time. I remember a woman going off on my co worker because of our return policy that employees don't make. Yep. I agree 100%. Any form of customer service teaches you a LOT about life. We should treat others with respect as customers or most other interactions. But of course, I've been on the other end too, being ignored by sales reps who are on their phone, or gossiping, or watching videos. And that's really unacceptable. You're going to have to take some crap in almost ANY job, and to a certain level, you have to suck up the parts you don't like, and DO your job! Unless you're a clown, you're not there to have fun! They’d only say something after the rude customer left. I put in my 2 weeks right after a lady cussed at me because she watched me make someone else’s drink and thought it was hers, so she claimed I made it wrong, and my manager said “she might’ve been having a bad day. As long as she doesn’t cuss at you again, she can keep coming back.” I don’t believe that anyone should ever get a second chance after yelling and cussing at someone. You’re an adult. These kind of people are the worst, doesn't even have the brain capacity to realize that the workers are just little dots in a life of a company but without them all those big companies would collapse. I'm glad there are still people with hearts to come on a defense of others who maybe can't defend themselves from bullies like that...

I've done my fair share of work in a grocery store deli when I was 19 and sadly enough, this isn't inaccurate by any means. People see other people working in customer service or retail and it's more common than you'd think not to be greeted by a simple 'hello' or 'how are you' because they can't grasp the concept that we are all human. Hearing a please and thank you from a patient person was something that I appreciated more than they could understand. It turned my smile from professional to genuine and I will always be sure I treat customer service workers with basic decency.

I was in line at a deli one time, a younger woman was working. There was a man in front of me that was so rude, so demanding and literally demeaning this employee. I’m very shy and incredibly non-confrontational but I couldn’t stand for what I was seeing. I basically told this man how I felt about him and he stormed off. The poor woman working there was crying. I told her that people like that customer are miserable and feel the need to bring others down to their level. I told her she’s doing a great job. The manager saw the whole thing happen and came up to me, thanked me for being so nice and then gave me my sandwich on the house! Of course I never expect anything in return, I was just being a decent human being. But it shows a little kindness goes a long way!

@@rogerrosen2323 "It's never that bad." OOOH Honey, let me tell you. You ever worked as a cashier at a fast food restaurant? I worked at Jack in the Box for 5 years (in a town in Texas with a lot of racist white folk). I had many encounters like these. One time this guy was angry that his burger had mustard, and he said something about the cook being too dumb to read his order right. My co-worker told him to chill out, and that we'd remake it but the guy was pissed saying stuff like "I already waited 20 fucking minutes for a burger, now I'm gonna wait 20 more minutes because these immigrants don't know how to make a burger right" my co-worker immediately switched gears and was like "HELL NO! Get out or I'm calling the cops" I don't remember much of what was said after that because it was a lot of back and forth yelling, and I was hiding out in a corner cuz I hate confrontation 😅 but the angry customer started grabbing cups and random stuff from the counter and throwing it at my co-workers and we had to call the cops to get him to leave. That's just one story though. I've got plenty more, and one of them involves glass bottles being hurled at my co-worker by a drunk customer (that story is from my current job where I work at a sports bar)

I can only laugh at how miserable some of those people were when I think back to those days, but I would never work those jobs again due to the stress of dealing with huge jerks, especially as an introverted person. One tiny mistake and your done for it you get screamed at you insults you pretty much relieve your glory days at when you were at middle school and thinking to yourself how did I get here. I work in a grocery store. If there’s two things you need to know, one, the saying “the customer’s always right” gets under our skin, I personally LOATHE that saying, and two the deli’s the absolute worst department to work in. I had a similar experience with a food order recently and the employee was apologizing so much for the incorrect order. I told her very calmly, "Hey, it happens."
