Great advice Capt. Sam. Super smooth ride. You guys are starting to make this look easy lol. Nail bitter of a docking there Capt. Getting her in the slip no matter how is the final achievement. We love watching you all. Be well and smooth sailing wishes to you two.

Likewise, I did my work at satellite campus but went to the Graduation Ceremony at Beaver Stadium on the Penn State Main Campus. It is hard to miss Beaver Stadium, even back then the capacity was ~60,000. Now with a seating capacity of 106,572, (it is second behind Michigan Stadium which is tops it by just over 1,000 seats) it really is visible. Love the artwork on the bridge pilings! Love the movable visual Port/Starboard navigation marker aid! Great to have the extra help to "manually" finish the docking maneuver. Would a change to bow in have been a good idea? Great Honey tutorial honey!

Thanks. We needed to Stern in to match up with the fuel truck hoses which were just long enough! Didn't realize Beaver Stadium was that big!

I have used the Auto Guidance on my Garmin MFD's but always go in and move the way points around. They seem to come to close to shore for my liking. I have 3 Garmins running. Time Zero running on a PC and Navionics on a iPad. At times they all have varied some🤔
@WhatYachtToDo2 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve! Yes in my experience Navionics does a much better job than Garmin. Whatever you use you'll have to ensure that it is taking you on a safe path for your vessel. It is good that you are always checking and cross-checking!

I'm sure you've said it before but, what's your air-draft with the antenna down? Since you can make it around/through Chiraq, it doesn't seem logical that ANYTHING along the ICW should give you grief (above the waterline at least). I was stationed for 3 years in Mayport, I'm VERY depressed I never heard about that Honey stand, especially since I and many of my buddies LOVE Mead!
@WhatYachtToDo2 жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct that there are no fixed Bridges along the icw that give us grief. However there are a number of bridges particularly below Stewart that must be opened. But it is always nice to be able to get under a bridge that doesn't have to be opened. Are height is 18.5 feet. We have a blog www.whatyachttodo.com/how-high-can-my-boat-be-for-the-great-loop/ that addresses the issue in detail. 😎

I heard you mention B52 pilot. You look familiar. Did you ever fly the B52 Weapon Systems Trainer simulator at Wurtsmith AFB in the late 80’s? I was a Field Service Engineer for AAI Engineering Support at that time.
@WhatYachtToDo2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ken, I do remember that weapon system trainer simulator, however I was there in the 82-84ish timeframe. I moved on to a T-37 instructor slot and 84, and then went to the U2 in 87. 😎

I know you guys like to tie up to port, but probably should have just done a bow in starboard side tie, and been done with it !
@WhatYachtToDo2 жыл бұрын
Yes that was my thought, however they were bringing a fuel truck out in the morning so we had to have the tanks as close to the dock as possible. In the end it all worked out 😉

Somehow I knew the pilot would take the safe route around Ponce Inlet! I captain a tour boat in NSB and constantly see people aground in the inlet and wonder why someone would take the route that has no nav aids to follow 🙄

Something that can be done in an awful docking situation. You can Hand a boat in. Amateurs shouldn't try it and even experienced hands should put a life vest on, but you can Hand a boat that size into a slip. Just know, that if you are out in the water, it's just you and the piling, there isn't likely any bottom near the piling; slips are dredged. Sometimes, just consider bringing a boat in by hand, in close quarters. Yes, you can do it with horsepower. The alternative is the No Stress Express. Get wet. Embrace it. It's actually fun.
