Cory Henry is not only an excellent musician but also teacher. I play keys as well and learned a lot about my own approach to harmony just from watching this video. Don't sleep on the fact the he's easily playing an 11th with his left hand. Average hand can hit the octave comfortably; he's got 4 on that.

I can also play an 11th although it's not as comfortable as say playing the 10th. He seems to have short finger. I have long finger and I was a bass player. It takes time to get the stretch. Such a great and gifted young man who has passion and the blessings from God! I wish I could play that well although i'm pretty good. I have a lot of cords as well but he has the voicings and a better left hand than I do..

It seems like he plays the best in keys we normally don’t play. Like I hate playing in the key of B and E it’s definitely a different approach that you need to be mindful of what and who your playing for and with. It takes restraint to stay in structure when it’s so open but to harmionic and play ebharmonic you have to open the mind to space

I was so glad to hear him lecture on the process of reharmonization. I personally get so sick of musicians that just try to get so over the top and of course their intention is just to impress people and you become a distraction from the worship or the singer. And frankly the glory that belongs to to God in that moment. And let's be honest the bottom line is and I know y'all don't want to hear it but God is a jealous God and He does bring folks down who exhault themselves more highly than they ought to. So I think our music and our service should be to glorify God and not ourselves.
@kevinjackson44575 жыл бұрын
Preach Sir! My father was a pastor/singer and musician and he use to tell me all the time it is great to be progressive BUT it is even better to be disciplined and if you are not accompanying the singer, choir, minister or blending with the other musicians, then you are a distraction! Sadly a lot of musicians these days though talented wonder why they don't get hired and spend most of their playing time sheddin instead of touring. So glad I learned when I was young that there is a time to shine and a time for discipline and to understand the difference between the two.
