Btw, the nasty looking grease on the hub spline you wiped out is a special grease and the one that should be used. The Honda service manual calls for it specifically. Molybdenum disulfide grease containing more than 3% molybdenum disulfide, NLGI #2 or equivalent. Example: molycote BR2 plus/ Dow corning

I get to fix my cousins stuff, he got the 1000 in 2020 and breaks everything. About 20 tie rod ends so far. a few axles, a few ball joints, etc. Well he tells me his havent been working right for a few months, then front axle flew out. I go to assess it, and turns out all 4 wheel bearings went bad, the lose bearings caused the brake issues from floppy rotors, and made the front axle cv fail and fly out. The upper a arm bushings on drivers side are failed, along with all 4 a arm bushings in the rear. LOL at the bearing prices mentioned at the end. They ain't 25 bucks a piece anymore thanks to Build Back Better.

The bearings are sealed so you're not actually greasing the bearing. The grease is just filling the inside of the hub to keep dirt and water away from the bearing. I believe the tool is a 40mm for a 1000 Pioneer. I bought a 44mm off of eBay and it won't fit inside the bearing.

its split in the center, and as you see on the tool, it pushes grease in the center split and forces old grease out. Yes it's called a sealed bearing, because its technically not greaseable, but this tool he has is how its greased.

Some people don't think so, but I liked too. By greasing the bearings it would push out any water or the contaminates prolonging the life of them.

Good to know all this stuff! Great information. I just ordered a 2021 pioneer deluxe. Can't wait. It is already built and just needs to be shipped to my dealer. Could be a month or more yet or maybe tomorrow? The dealer here never knows when they will come in.

If you stay out of the deep water holes like I plan to the bearings should be good for a longer time I would hope.

Your grease tool insert did not have the o ring on the back. The ones that do have the o rings allows for about 20 pumps of the grease gun per bearing. O rings keep it from leaking out the back side before greasing the bearing. My sportsman takes 20 pumps per bearing

mine has o ring on back side and is tapered on front side so grease can't escape and can only go up into bearing , that grease you see coming out back might be coming out by axle and not going up into bearing , grease comes out the front in the seam of the bearing so ya know its into bearing . , I remove snap ring so I can see when it evenly starts to come out , if not the snap ring blocks the pressure and it all comes out the gap in snap ring , as soon as I see it coming out I stop , I think its bad to have it totally full and will build heat and may even make yer balls slide instead of roll in the bearing , and yes rotate tool 90 degrees after each 4-5 pumps

I am not disagreeing with this video as I have little knowledge of this subject. But I have a 2017 Pioneer 500 and had a 2014 Pioneer 700 that I drove for years at my hunting club in much deep mud and water. Never did anything to bearings and never have had any issues. The guys with Polaris however replace broken bearings constantly. I’m assuming it’s difference in design ?

if u don't push out the old grease, mud and dirt using new grease, it will sooner or later catch up to you. mush easier and cheaper to follow this video then replace your bearings

I’ve never torn mine apart yet but it looks like a sealed bearing like a car. So my question , is there a hole in the middle of the inner race? If not the grease has gone no where but on the axle spline.
@DirtNDiesel
@DirtNDiesel 5 жыл бұрын
When I greased the bearings with the tool the grease does go up behind the bearing. The grease in my opinion keeps water out, even though the bearing is "sealed," in my experience water still gets in. When greasing them it pushes out any water and dirt that may be in there. Thanks for watching!

@carlatjoses
@carlatjoses 5 жыл бұрын
Jason Nadler I feel the same way but looking at pictures of the bearing it might be a split inner. But still has no way for junk to come out.
@bryanmontgomery4050
@bryanmontgomery4050 4 жыл бұрын
They do have a split center race. By greasing, you push out any contamination from the bearings. Most stock bearing come with very little grease as well. This is definitely a need to do item unless you like replacing bearings. I have seen them fail in as little as 50 miles if you ride in any water or mud.
@TheCaperfish
@TheCaperfish Жыл бұрын
they are not "sealed" they are dust covers on them they will never prevent water from entering nor ill they prevent grease from getting out so it is fine to flush them with grease to rid any contamination in there and get rid of the old grease with metal wear particles in it that just acts like sandpaper and will wear bearings faster
