I just thought I would mention to you, now is the time of year when people are getting rid of their trucks with snow plows on for a decent price.

You pushing her at the end reminded me of a story. When I was in high school my father built a plow out of some scrap angle iron with holes in it for a lawn tractor he had. I think it was an old Sears tractor. I used to call it the Erector Set plow. He was plowing and it kept spinning so I would give him a push. Then it started to spin so I jumped on the back and held onto his shoulders. It would push snow REALLY GOOD then. He told me I was going to break it doing that. I did it one more time and we heard the rear end skip a few teeth. It still worked after that but I didn't jump on it any more. It was pretty funny. Thanks for reminding me of that. I wish we could do it again but he's in heaven now. God bless you all!

Man this saddens me! I wish wheel horse was still in south bend. My great grandfather had a very similar model , had the plow as well. We are 45 min from south bend . Where wheel horse was made. When I was a kid my parents sold it with the house. Wish they would have kept it.

Even though I do most of my work with a newer Kubota , I still have three of these old beauties, 310-8, 314-8 (fiftieth anniversary edition), and my favorite, a C-160, that my dad bought new in 1976, thanks for the great video!

Great video Norman. Thanks for doing all you do to save these old iron horses. We have four Wheelhorses in the stable right now. 2 hers, 2 mine. Three projects in the works. I'm up in the Foothills just outside of Cornish. Keep up the great work!

I have the 312-8 with a 48 inch blade and 4 link chains with weights; I also have a C-111 with a 42 inch blade and 2 link chains with weights. I don't use the C-111 now that I've done a restoration on it but I'm going to tell you that the C-111 with the smaller blade and the 2 link chains was better at clearing snow.

I just got off mine, 6” snow and another 8” on the way. I put Carlisle ags on 8” wheels with 75lb cast iron wheel weights plus 4 45”lb suitcase weights on rack I made that goes in a 2” hitch I made as well. Haven’t needed chains yet and I plow up a grade

Do all my plowing with a 96 312-8. I put a 5-20 swept act and reduction steering on. Also has the 520 wheels (ags in back) and seat. No chains in mine either. 75lb cast iron in the wheels and 180lbs suitcase weights off the rear. Made a 2” hitch and adapter that the weights hang on. Amazing what they will push. My plow is a 48”

It's been a VERY light year for snow for us this winter. Where I live I normally have about a three-foot base by now. It's not much more than half that. If March is as calm as the previous months have been we will be planting early this spring for sure.
@greenwoodsbushhogging67044 жыл бұрын
@@ebinmaine I'm pretty sure we've been declared as a rain forest down here on the NC/SC boarder. Total snow was less than a inch, but I'm pretty sure we're well over 5+ foot of rain. Lol

I know this may be out of your area of interest/expertise but could you do a review of talk about the temporary canvas shed shelters you have. Such as how well they shed snow, interior moisture, long term longevity, etc. Love you videos. Thanks!
@ebinmaine4 жыл бұрын
Funny you would ask about that. We put 1 up nearly a year ago and I was thinking of doing a video about it. The one thing I will say right here and now is that you just can't leave the snow on them.

Hello Norman, Very cool vintage wheel horse. I recently found and bought a 312-8 just like yours and now in the process of building into a woods tractor with taller ag tires on rear and taller rib tires on front to higher ground clearance. Would you happen to have an extra plow on hand for the wheel horse.? Thanks--Robert.

Quick question, im thinking of buying one of these and have been told the front spindles tend to bend and the axles aren't as durable. is this generally true? Im looking at buying one with 400 hours that has only been mowed.
@Isavetractors4 жыл бұрын
The front axles are cast iron so they are tough. The spindles are 3/4" so they are tough as well. Except for having a front end loader this tractor will handle anything you throw at it
@gregbetts80573 жыл бұрын
are most these lawn tractors hydro or belt drive trans axles ? thanks

Do you have any videos of you un installing blade deck and installing plow ? I have a 312-8 classic i want to install a snow blade on my tractor but cant find what model plow or what i need. Can you lend some help ?
@Isavetractors3 жыл бұрын
I have a video on installing the mower deck. You can use that video and follow it in reverse to remove the deck. All of the plows that were on tractors with the attach - 0 matic wheel horses will work for your 312-8. That's pretty much all plows from mid 70's wheel horse tractors to the 80's. You can also send me photos of plows you're looking into buying and I can look at it individually for you.
