The rule is, the puzzle must be pronounced exactly as it appears on the board. So this judgement call was correct. However, on the very next episode, a contestant didn't pronounce the D in HICKORY SMOKED COUNTRY HAM but he was ruled correct. So she can probably use that against the show in an effort to let her appear on the show again.

It's because the next word she says (Experience) starts with a vowel. I've noticed that a lot of pronunciations involving the ends of words (dropping G's on 'ing' sounds, dropping R sounds (British), etc.) do not apply when the next word (if said in the same sentence) starts with a vowel.

Something very similar happened on the Australian version back in 1996, the puzzle was 'Blowin' in the wind', contestant Andrew attempted to solve it by saying it "BlowinG in the wind" and John Burgess who was the host at the time (albeit he was sacked later in the year) didn't except it, saying to Andrew "I'm sorry i have to bong you on that!"

Anyone who watches this show on a regular basis knows that if a player doesn't pronounce every word in a puzzle correctly, they don't win. We've all seen it happen thousands of times. I think the show has to be technical to be fair, and I don't see this as any different. Swimmin, is not the same as swimming. To me, it has nothing to do with having an accent....she said the wrong word. Period. The sad part is that the woman herself said she guessed the "G" and knew it was there. Sorry, I have to side with the show on this one.

@peanutthepoodle 7 жыл бұрын
The whole purpose of the game is to guess the correct word, phrase, thing, etc. She said herself that she knew there was a "G" so it's her own fault for not saying the word correctly. If you were presenting something for a professional career or even school and used slang or ebonics to talk, you would be corrected. The puzzle said Swimming not Swimmin' so she lost fair and square. Floridians also do not have southern accents, give me a break. She pronounced her words appropriately in this interview with ZERO southern accent. This constantly offended culture is getting old real fast.

I know this has been on KZbin for several years now, and I've never commented. But every so often I watch this clip and remember that particular contestant on the show. I used to really enjoy watching Wheel Of Fortune in the evenings at home after my day at work, it came on right after Jeopardy on the same station in my local area. It still comes on at the same time, but I do not watch it anymore. As soon as Jeopardy is over, I switch to another channel. Although maybe not the "last straw," this particular incident was one of the reasons I decided to stop watching the show. Although errors like that are rare on any game show, a show like Jeopardy seems way more to be willing to give contestants the benefit of the doubt and to let them come back on if necessary. Other than this one, I forget the other incidents I saw on wheel of fortune where I thought a "do over" was in order, and it did not come. Years ago, I indirectly knew someone who appeared on wheel of fortune, and they really enjoyed the experience. Pat Sajak had been a local news person in an area where I lived, so I was familiar with him, and was very pleased for him that he became host of that show. But, their seeming attitude of not taking into account regional differences, or not taking into account the person might (even after all the preparatory exercises for the actual taping) might still be very nervous. Either of those things, or both, could have played into this and other incidents on that show. It's not a sleazy show, it's not cheating, it's a show that needs to he more sensitive to things like that. Did they ever let her go back on the show? If they did, how did she come out?

For long time Wheel watchers, this loss is understandable. They state specifically to the contestants to pronounce it exactly the way it's written. For her to use her southern accent as an excuse for her mispronunciation is not valid. If they gave that to her, they would have to give it to a lot of the past contestants or face lawsuits. That's why they stick to the rules. Now, that one contestant they cheated out of the million dollars after they solved the final puzzle correctly, evidence of which has been surgically removed from the Internet completely, is the one that wasn't fair and needed to be litigated.

This is totally outrageous and this lady was truly rob. She don't need a do over, she needs to get pay, they fault and she needs her money. Wheel Of Fortune should be a shame.
