Haha love it! Way to crank these out now! IF moiraine is stilled (I don’t think she is, just a tied off shield)… this could be rolling in Siuan’s storyline later (if she gets killed off in the tower coup) and an impetus for Nynaeve to study and heal Moiraine, because of her love and protection of LAN.

I was looking forward to Season 1 ending on a high note. Before this episode, I had given Season 1 a B grade up to this point. It was not perfect, but, IMO, it was not horrible. I thought Episode 7 did as well as could be expected with the loss of Barney Harris. This despite my dislike of the Steppin plot in Episode 5. I would have preferred it to focus on characters who would be in the show beyond that one episode. But then we had episode 8. I was so disappointed in this episode. I would have preferred that they deal with the Trollocs invasion off screen than see what we got. The VFX was horrible. The lack of extra's made it seem less serious than Winternight and the subsequent chase of Moiraine, Lan and the 4 TRs. It seemed like there were only 2 dozen soldiers to defend that entire outpost. The look of the blight was horrible. And I hated that the Horn was under the throne and how they used Perrin, Egwene and Nyaneve in Episode 8. If the show had to make Egwene and Nyaneve be human batteries, then they could have made it so Nyaneve used her determination, crawl to Amilise, knock her out and then heal an almost burnt out Egwene. Having Egwene unconsciously heal Nyaneve made no sense as to who their characters were. On the positive side, I think the Show had a unique and rather successful approach as to how to handle the confrontation at the Eye of the World. Was it completely different from the book? Absolutely. But the end of the book was hard to understand what really happened. IMO, one has to read it multiple times to understand everything that happened at the end of the book TEotW. Had the rest of Episode 8 not been a disaster, then I think the way the events played out at the Eye of the World would have garnered a lot less complaints. Season 2 has a lot to make up for it we are to get more than Season 3. This is especially the case with the last episode for Season 2. Episode 8, Season 1 was a weak ground out with the bases loaded.

I am writing to express a specific query regarding the representation of Lews Therin Telamon within the context of a particular series. Notably, I have observed that his character is depicted wearing a ring with a bracelet-like design on his fingers. An intriguing distinction arises when comparing this portrayal to instances in which the character Ran engages in channeling activities. Notably, there is a noticeable absence of the characteristic black waves that are typically associated with the influence exerted by the Dark One. This phenomenon can be attributed to the taint that the Dark One introduced to the power. In light of this juxtaposition, I find myself intrigued by the potential implications of such a motif. I am especially curious about the potential relevance of a similar ring in the depiction of the Dark One in the final episode of the series. Could this recurring theme, manifested through the presence of rings, hold a deeper significance? Specifically, I am interested in exploring the potential symbolic connotations behind the portrayal of the Dragon, who played a pivotal role in world-altering events, donning a ring that bears semblance to the Dark One's ring. Any insights or perspectives that shed light on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
@UnravelingthePattern Жыл бұрын
Your comment feels like it was written by Chat GPT or something, but to answer your question, we don't know what the ring is. We've seen three different people wearing the ring: The Dark One, Lewis Therin, and Latra Posae. All 3 lived during the Age of Legends 3000 years ago. Perhaps it is an ancient version of the Aes Sedai ring. Or perhaps it is a sa'angreal of some sort. Have you read the books? I can possibly give a bit more info if you're okay with spoilers, but the "rings" are not in the books so we don't know what they are.

The spoiler is that "the Dark One" or the man in the show is Ishamael, one of the Forsaken, not the Dark One. Ishamael, before he turned to the Shadow, was a well respected Aes Sedai and philosopher and friend to Lews Therin. Since they all wear that ring it's possible that it was given to Aes Sedai in the Age of Legends.
Episode 8 out of all of the episodes is the most objectionable of season one since it completely ignores the book lore about how the one power works I feel like Han Solo that's not how the force works
@UnravelingthePattern Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say "completely ignores." They made a few minor changes, like no "buffer" during linking in a Circle. But I get what you're saying and I hope they'll course correct for future seasons.

For me, this was the weakest episode of the season. By the time the credits rolled, I was wishing that no one had brought Mr. Jordan’s magnum opus to the screen. I appreciate that Covid and the loss of Barney Harris played a factor here. But it was still hard to forgive this very poor (in my opinion) production. On the bright side, the final episodes of season one (minus ep7 cold open which was awesome) set the bar so low that season 2 can’t help but be far better.
@hiltrud2001 Жыл бұрын
Also giving Perrin a wife and fridging her was an indicator for how low the bar was set. I'm determined to watch only after seeing very positive reactions!

Still one of the worst episodes of all high production T.V ever made. 1. How did they screw up past so bad (Lews was not the dragon reborn; he was not even called the dragon until after his death). 2. How did Egwene ressurect a very dead Nyneve (Sorry but that is what happened look at the damn scene). 3. Why did they take away Rands big moment. 4. Why did they change the seals (it is just bad writing and poor planing for the later episodes). 5. Being burned out is the same as being stilled, even if Nyneve didn't dye she was still stilled. The only solution for this is to make Rafe and writers apologize by commiting ritual suiside.
@UnravelingthePattern Жыл бұрын
Hyperbole much? 1. Lews Therin was absolutely called the Dragon before his death. He literally led troups with the banner of the Dragon 2. Nynaeve wasn't dead, she was just mostly dead. Yes, it was dumb, but she wasn't dead. I hope they explain it better in S2 3. They didnt' take away Rand's big moment. It was just different. It's more in-line with how the full series ended. 4. I don't know why, but I'm intrigued by it 5. While being burned out and stilled are similar in the books, they're not identical. Also, I agree, that scene was dumb and could've been better. Chill out about Rafe. Hundreds of people were involved.

The fact they were able to burn themselves out while linked is the biggest travesty. Sure if they do go back on that and actually make it right most of the show only folks won't even notice.
@UnravelingthePattern Жыл бұрын
That's one of the changes they intentionally made to give linking and One Power usage more risks/drama.
@drewmaxwell440 Жыл бұрын
@@UnravelingthePattern yes and stupid imo. That is not part of the magic system. Linking has big uses later on and is needed as a safety net not to get burned out. They could have had an aes sedai burn herself out unlinked with Nynaeve and Egwene there and used Egwene to break Nynaeve out of it before she went to far for the same effect
@UnravelingthePattern Жыл бұрын
Perhaps they'll rediscover the "proper way" to do it, like in the AoL. But I think they intentionally want to raise the stakes, so I doubt they'll change back to the book version.
@aidanfrancis6159 Жыл бұрын
First it was Bran al'vere then is was Agelmar, this show is just butchering all the strong male characters. Even Nynaeve gave Bram praise for being a good leader and the show made him a foolish man who seems to follow his wife by her apron strings and be dismissed out of hand as an annoyance. Now there is Lord Agelmar, a Great Captain, reduced to a foolish and proud leader/general who needs his sister to state the obvious of battle to him. 'Behaving like a foolish Southern Lord', the real Agelmar would have said. And then they reduced the Amalisa to a power hungry woman who killed her own people that she called to stand with her, lol.
@UnravelingthePattern Жыл бұрын
Wow, you see the world very differently from me. I think you might be imagining some things there. Yes, Agelmar's character changes were not my favorite either, but your other assessments are way off IMO.
