That's a sure fire way to do a timing belt job wrong. Nothing is keeping the crankshaft and camshafts in place. He did not use the locking pin for the crankshaft and did not use the locking bar for the camshafts. As did he not check all the timing marks on the camshafts to ensure they are perfectly on timing, since the old belt stretches and every engine is slightly out of sync when the timing belt is due. That's why you independently check timings, lock them, install your new belt and tension it BEFORE releasing the locking accesories, that's why the camshaft wheels can freely turn on the shaft before thightening them down to SPEC. This timing job here is the reason, why so many Audis don't have their full power and fail in numerous ways, because a lot of people don't do their job right. It's a german car, it is required to know what you're doing on these. Not do it like yo gran dad told your coworker out in the field how to paint timing chains back in the day and your whole town did it the same way ever since.

True, although, I don't think it is a floating type cam pulley and can only go one way. But I would definitely do it the way you described by locking the pulleys marking the shaft.

@@anesennaidoo5279 You are free to think it's not a floating type, but it just is. I own many Audis and owned even more. I do every chain or timing belt job myself and except for the 2.5 Diesels, the pulleys are floating

@@GERntleMAN Thanks, nice to know about the floating cam pulleys - Im gobsmacked at the amount of dismantling one has to do to get to the cambelt and why doesnt Audi have a timing chain ffs.

@@anesennaidoo5279 They do after 2005 and that's the problem. Timing belts are superior in rotating mass and ease of service. Additionally many Audi engines only need a timing belt after 120.000km, while I've seen many drive 200.000km with one belt. TO have a timing chain not age and fail, it needs to be heavy or a duplex, which back in the day cars had. But nowadays it is to much noise, rotating mass and a complex assembly hence they use simplex and weak chains. Ergo they fail quicker than belts, are louder and more expensive. I prefer belts any day, save for old engines from the 80s. These duplex chains worked for 400.000km on Mercedes and such

2 things... 1: Gates timing belt is the worst shit ever... 2: you forgot to change the end caps/seals for the camshafts... Love that car... I have 5 of them ✌️

How to have a quick nervous breakdown... attempt to change the timing chains in a Audi 4.2 V8. It's a thing of nightmares.

Those V6 Audis are prone to head gasket oil leaks - I had two of them, lovely engines, but leak from the heads at higher mileage.

The title should been instead: "How to fix temporarly an oil leak in a Audi S4 Avant". They are like boats on wheels, sinking money.

Tell that to the 23 Audis I've owned with never less than 250.000km on the clock which did not leak oil. As do not my RS6 from 2003, my TT from 2001 and my Q7 from 2007 or my A8 from 2002. What boatload of crap I hear from internet heroes watching a few videos from poorly maintained Audis in the US and Britain...they do have their problems and just as many other manufacturers not a few, but oil leaks they have less than any american, french or british car I've ever seen. They come oily from the factory

How about the thermostat? Its behind the timing belt, also i think that cam timing locking tool should have been installed earlier
