Mike Brewer not only painted a rear shelf instead of doing the right thing and recovering, he also bought a BE1 gear knob for a BE3 gearbox (reverse is in a different location!!!) which had magically corrected itself by sale time. Shoddy stuff indeed.

The rear beam is fukd. Look at the camber on the back wheel. He missed out the cotter pin on the gear linkage. To which it popped off when new owner bought it. Heard on the forums that this car was a right nail

It's a TV show lots of work used to go on off camera. Just look at the credits, even in the early shows full time mechanics are listed. Sometimes the problems were explained away by an 'easy fix'. More often in the later shows no reference was made at all, it's like they magically fixed themselves.

yeah i love the new gti-6 engine and gearbox, the fact its got 4 new suspension arms, 4 new peugeot sport hubs, new sports shocks a full pu bush kit and uprated anti roll bars. i especially love the new clutch and flywheel, and the scorpion exhaust system kick ass. i also love the fact its had a full body care session and sits there with a new stereo and alarm. it even has a new sunroof seal........so do a deal with me were asking £12'000....err ill give you £2k for cash...get out of my sight

aaah, back when this show was the shit. I used to have a tuned (custom exhaust and wheels) 1.9 205 GTI... it was a little rocket, but the engine didn't last long (something with the crankshaft, or whatever that shit at the top of the engine is called). I fixed it, but it was never the same again. I still miss that car, though. It was a beast.

Interesting to see that back when this was filmed this car had corrosion on the front headlamp panel seams and lower radiator mount. Nicely covered up with a refurbished bumper 🙄

Had to laugh when he mentioned the rear chassis work. I've recently lowered my 405 mi16 and its a f---ken pain in the arse to do....believe me! LOL. The torsion bar arrangement(s) on the 405 demand someone who knows their Pugs, don't let any random mechanic try to lower your old Pug. The final price is laughable....plus 1st person to come and see it for such a rare car? I'd have told her to piss off and get the other folks in who called and kept the price firm.

I just don’t get all this nostalgia about old cars, give me a modern car any day, I’m 58 so I have lived through the 205 era, they are knackers, I’ve drove a 205 GTI and honestly compared with modern cars they are crap, people need to get real, old cars are crap compared to new models, I have owned a 208 gti and I can honestly say that it is 100 times better than the old 205 gti you guy need to get real, pisses me off when I hear that this old 295 gti is better than modern cars.
