This Oklahoma dynasty is just special. Easily the greatest dynasty in all of Softball and in collegiate sports there are very few other programs that compare to it. Just an incredible group of women that Patty Gasso has coached over the years many of them all time great players that have put up number rarely seen in softball. But to me the story of this OU team was Kelly Maxwell. This was easily the weakest pitching staff OU has had in this championship run but it didn’t matter because Kelly Maxwell was work horse who etched her name in OU lore forever. 5-0 with 2 saves and a 1.88 ERA for the entire tournament is just insanely special and OU doesn’t win the title if she doesn’t give them this masterclass. Enjoy this moment of softball history because we very well may never see anything quite like this again.

Well you know, I was thinking, there might be some truth to that, the sport needs to grow a little more, and have a few more stadiums built Texas needs a stadium, and 2 more states need them too. so that it's not all us OU fans at the big games. But also, a 4 peat is nearly impossible, my Sooners won't be there every year forever, but I do think a 2nd location would make it less hostile.

@@ekojar3047I don't agree. Other wise OU should never lose there. I believe ucla spanked them just a few years ago (for the nattie 2019?). now fexas will never beat OU there because white has already sold his team they can't win at okc against OU. His fault not the locations, Florida sure wasn't intimidated by the number of fans. And I believe Patti has an over whelming winning record at austin. If it was that big of a deal then the shorthorns should never lose in austin
@ronaldlamascus19446 ай бұрын
That stadium and venue was built at a time when Oklahoma was a very mediocre team. And it was several years later when Gasso won her first Championship title with Oklahoma. Oklahoma is a hot bed of women’s and men’s softball. Most other states are not into softball so much. With the current cost of construction, it’s highly unlikely any additional 15,000 seat softball stadiums are going to be built anywhere. Plus, the fans didn’t cause Texas to make all the errors and mental mistakes they did against Oklahoma. They sure handled Florida and Stanford without a problem. If they aren’t mentally up to the challenge, that’s not the fault of the stadium or its location. Really irrelevant argument.

For those not wanting to celebrate greatness, here’s your “pick your fighter” guide to hating: (1) It’s unfair that WCWS is played in OKC and should be moved (note: be sure to leave out OSU’s poor WCWS despite “home field advantage” and don’t mention that Devon Park is 2.5x bigger than the next biggest stadium and was built and began hosting the WCWS many years before OU was good. Also don’t mention that OU had a lopsided losing record in WCWS games until about a decade ago). (2) OU players celebrate too much. How dare they show emotion! (3) The umps blew ___ call(s) that was clearly the reason OU won. (tip: be sure to only mention bad calls that went in favor of OU, not those against) (4) OU was already too good, and now with NIL and the transfer portal, how can anyone compete. They would never win if they could not get the best players off of other teams (hint: don’t mention that many great players transferred out from OU too including SEC POY Jocelyn Erickson and last year’s WCWS MOP Jordy Bahl) (5) OU’s dominance is killing the sport. No one will want to follow it when only one team wins the championship year after year (tip: be sure not mention that the popularity of college softball has increased dramatically and is at an all-time high)

CONGRATS TO OKLAHOMA! The Longhorns don’t deserve to be national champs if they play like they did in game two. 1. A player is called back from an infield hit because the umpire said ball hit her while she was in the box. Replay showed the ball wasn’t anywhere near her. BUT the player never says anything to her coaches, no one in the dugout notices and none of the coaches notice. Fortunately she got hit. 2. Bases are loaded for TX and a new OK pitcher throws pitch that hugs the ground and the catcher can’t handle, but the runner on third never moves when she could have easily taken home. Either the coach is asleep, the player is, or they just don’t want to apply pressure when they have a chance. 3. The centerfielder makes a casually catch of a short fly ball while the runner on second base tags up and “steels” third on the weak throw. This means the CF is playing the game like it’s a pickup game, not a national championship, plus the SS and 2nd baseman should have yelling - “she’s tagging up!, she’s tagging up!” 4. Infield hit for Texas, run scores to make it a one-run game, another runner moves to third putting pressure on OK. BUT wait, the hitter casually meanders toward second base and gets thrown out at first. She turns the situation into an inning-ending, rally-killing, third out. 5. These are indications that they are use to winning because they have so much talent and it’s been easy season. The entire team seems lackadaisical, they don’t have a killers’ instinct and a good team will rip out their souls and take a national championship from them. 6. It starts with the coaches, they need to keep the players heads in the game, make them coaches on the field, emphasize that every detail is important and it’s ultimately up to them to win the big games, THEY have to beat the best to be the best.
