When a 13 handicap shoots his BEST SCORE EVER (inc. Eagle Putt .. !!!)

Can I break 85? - EVERY SHOT IN 21 MINUTES
A round of golf at Northop golf course in North Wales. It's a par 72 hole course that was 6052 yards.
The green fee was £18 for a twilight rate in July 2022.
I'm James, a golfer with a dodgy swing now playing off a 13 handicap. I had taken 4 golf lessons to improve my swing on the day of play.
This day I carded my best ever score on an 18-hole par 72 course.
I'm looking to continuously 90 after taking some golf lessons. Even if I don't shoot a good score I always enjoy strolling around the fairways of North Wales, UK :-)

Very well done James. The dry, warm conditions does help us higher handicappers for distance but you get some good and some bad bounces. In these conditions I have found the short game and putting has certainly lowered my scores recently. Keep up the good work James, I enjoy your videos and the improvement you have made.

Ah James Congrats! and what a round. Your temperament is exemplary and many would have lost their heads after a first hole like that. As you say perhaps it relaxes you and maybe that's the secret to shooting low! Your whole game is on point with only bunker shots needing some work. What a journey it's been. Great to watch!

What a round; started with a quad bogey but didn't let it in your head and ruin the round. There were many fine shots but that severe downslope chip on #5 was the best shot of the round, that was really an extremely hard shot. Really nice birdie on #8 to pull the front in nicely. The wedge to tap in distance on #11 set your confidence for the back 9 and you went after it. Even with the 4 missed putts inside 5 feet (imagine if a couple of those went in) you putting was overall very good today and the lagged eagle putt to an easy 3 foot tap in birdie on #15 was great. Wonderful round of golf! 🏌‍♀⛳👍👍 P.S.: A little tip for your bunker shots, open your stance wider (helps flatten out the swing) and keep legs bent well; I visualize sitting my butt in a chair and leaving it there.

Had the same experience just last night, shooting 41 as my personal best. It was just the other way round - starting the first 7 holes playing par in total (1 opening bogey and one birdie), but finishing with a triple and a double on the last two). Keep going with your improvement and your vids.

Cheers Johnny, the greens were great on this day and a pleasure to play on. When I'm lag putting I always pace out the putt and have the number in my head (eg. 45 ft) so it helps with the distance control a lot. Thanks for watching :-)

Brilliant round James on a lovely course with great greens.. Your Ball striking was superb.. Wish I hit my scoring irons as good as you... You drove the ball superbly as well.... Any tips on iron play from 130 yards in....

I'm not really one for giving tips. But one drill I do on the range is to hit about 10 balls with the 9 iron all at the 3 100 yard markers. I alternate each shot between the targets and try and make sure I can get it as close as possible and it's great for the alignment. Thanks for watching :-)

Great round and congrats on the score! Practice those bunker shots - remember to open your stance 45 degrees and open the club face to flatten it so you can scoop the ball up in the air.

Cheers Peter, I'd say I hit the ball about average now. 220-230 is my normal driver distance. There is always room for improvement though. I might do a swing overhaul in winter 2023 which will give me more distance and a full swing. Thanks for watching :-)

I wouldn't go changing too much to be honest as you don't want to lose what you have already gained in the short space of time you have been making the videos. I see a lot of people change their swings and do all sorts of stuff and can lose their game completely. improve the bunker play alright but I wouldn't go changing too much would be my advice! love the videos! all the best, Peter

Hi James, when in the bunker, try cocking the wrists super early (it will make you hit down more steeply) and also choke down on the grip are far as you can. Finally, get your weight forward (and keep it there), and aim an inch or two behind the ball. Will give you much more control.
