In this mod you can play Hearts of Iron 4 But In The 2000s.
You can play HOI4 in 2022 basically!
The Modern Day has a completely new map and there's a ton of new countries compared to vanilla HOI4 or even Kaiserreich.
Besides that, there's so many new features to represent technology and politics advancing in the 2000s.
Rockets, nukes, spy satellites, jets, new tanks, new mechanics.
There's stuff about banks, economy, budget, the EU.
This mod is filled to the brim with new stuff and it's basically Hearts of Iron 5.
The best way to start off this new journey to Millennium Dawn is by having a German play Germany in 2022!

It feels odd playing a game based around more recent, lived-in politics. You feel more strongly about politics you were alive for I suppose. We have this idea of politicians and figures from history that is more similar to a painting or a statue, and not as a previously living politician, with all the politics that that comes with. Like, it’s hard to imagine, but during the war, I’m sure there were Americans talking about FDR like how some people talk about Trump or Biden today. Once something is classified as “history” (when the generations that experienced it are either dead or in retirement homes) we quickly disconnect it from our idea of current reality, and it almost feels like it’s seperate from our reality, just a pre-ordained set of events that supposedly happened.

@@Barakeh the main differences are based around changing laws to be inline with EU laws which obviously takes time to go through parliaments, poland had to work on it for a while which is why it joined in the early 2000s but Ukraine flip flops on if it wants to be close to russia, close to the EU, close to NATO all the time (albeit not anymore) Ukraine only applied to join the EU after the invasion. its a hard balance to draw between helping Ukraine and avoiding war

They have a gargantuan capital, so with proper, honest effort on their part, they can count 100% on being accepted. Just don't expect it to join over night, it will take a few years. Even more importantly that immediate EU accession, they will need funds to rebuild, and we will not waver in helping them.

Hey, just some friendly context: Today, Schröder is famous for a few things, most of them bad: Getting friendly with Putin to get their gas and for uttering a specific sentence which was supposed to make the German people more friendly towards Putin & Russia: "Putin ist ein lupenreiner* Demokrat", meaning "Putin is a perfect democrat" (*"lupenrein" is German for checking a Diamond for impurities with a magnifying glass and finding nothing). He invited Putin to come to his 60th birthday a few years ago, after Putin had picked up his favourite past time of poisoning journalists in other countries. Also, today he just looks like an easily manipulated old man in weirdly coloured suits with a girlfriend that's at least 35 yrs younger than him. Apart from that wanna-be playboy image, Merkel is just sooooooooooo much smarter&more eloquent than him, he's seen as a macho with little substance. This is my last point, promise: When the war in Ukraine started, Schröder thought he could "go over there and talk some sense to Putin" which didn't just not work out, since then he's been openly supporting of Putin's agenda -.- I'd feel dirty if i had to RP Schröder, too :)

I don't think this is the place to really ramble about such topics even if there are multiple problems due to our government not splitting public and private properly. We don't have a NHS, Medicare or whatever the things for other countries are, only in my close family we use 7 different insurance companies (which handle Healthcare completely), i changed mine twice in my lifetime. only the cheapest and absolutely most horrible is actually paid for by welfare, one with which you really don't get anything paid and welfare work can basically tell you to suck it if they fail to inform you of that immediately and you get a bill for a few thousand 3 months into being in welfare by your old insurance) Seriously, Imagine losing your job, having a public servant forget to mention something and three months later you get a bill 3700€ for "free Healthcare" Then there's also that some insurance (even those that welfare doesn't cover) are considered "public" despite being run like any private business and some are private which don't get paid by your taxes like public ones do (funfact: police, jail guards and similar can only go to private ones specifically because of that. Idk it really is about their taxes but they're somehow different from that of someone not in service of the state or country) which get a lot better service, there's straight up doctors who only take private patients Goddamn, that is longer than expected, i tried to make it as short as possible. Shits fucked

I don't think people who can't afford insurance would get it in the US so the welfare problem should be unique, also even the worst is decent if you only care about physical health and aren't obese. So not being able to afford treatment after a car crash or something like that doesn't happen (unless you somehow cheated yourself out of the system but idk how you'd even do that, I'm sure there's ways though)

Tommy, as much as I criticize the Iraqi war, it was not, "just like Putin." Saddam was committing genocide against his people for one, and let's not forget 10 years previously he invaded and occupied kuwait after previously invading iran. Yes both actions can be criticized for obvious reasons, but to call them equivalent is drastically white-washing what putin is doing, whether you intended to do so or not.

The Iraqi war got a million civilians (yes, civilians) dead, no matter what saddam was doing (which was very bad) it wouldn’t be wise to compare the two seeing how catastrophic the Iraq campaign was. There is also the fact that NATO had no real meaningful reason to involve in Middleeastern business (other than pillaging gold and oil) while the furthering of NATO in ex-Soviet is directly a problem for Russian national interests (doesn’t justify an invasion of an independent country but still). You can’t just compare the two.

The idea that America lied about WMDs is still one of the most hotly debated pieces of American Foreign policy. However, there are some things that need to be taken into account. Firstly, Weapons of Mass Destruction does not solely mean a Nuclear Weapon. Sadaam Hussein *did* have stockpiles of chemical weapons, and high yield explosives. Secondly, Iraq's regime did assist Al Qaeda in carrying out 9/11, with some of the Hijackers origins being through Iraq, with Iraqi visas. Thirdly, Sadaam Hussein was carrying out atrocities on his own people, and many Iraqis had requested political Asylum in the United States, to flee from said atrocities.
