I've been using Himalayan and now KTM 390 ADV. 390 Adv is far ahead of Himalayan. Off-road is fun in both the machine. It's just that seat is higher in KTM, Hence shorter rider complaints. On road - Himalayan is no where competition to KTM considering power and comfort.

People tend to overexaggerate the need for low end torque. It's only helpful while climbing steep inclines in excess of around 15 degree. The Duke engine even at idling generates enough torque to climb up steep parking ramps without providing throttle at all, which are around 12 degree. You don't need torque while going over loose surfaces. You need grip for that, which is provided by the tyres. If your tyres slip, no matter how much torque your engine generates, you will not move forward. Just strap on a proper off road tyre on that motorcycle and it will deliver well even on slippery surfaces. As for the off road capability, Adv 390 is good enough for soft to moderate trails. For the more technical trails that involve going over boulders or rocks etc, Xpulse is the best motorcycle under 500cc. Even Himalayan isn't that great for the advanced trails.

@Ok Boomer People have taken other motorcycles as well for hard off-roading on KZbin. You can check people riding Adv 390 through the forests and rivers. Doesn't mean it's made for that. Same with Himalayan.

@@Torquebeast650 Exactly.. People complaining it's not a proper offroader, it isn't meant to be one.. They are not fooling anyone with those alloy wheels.. It is a great tourer with more offroad ability than most riders have balls..

It totally depends on how you use the machine. Many of people have done trip to leh ladakh on bike like platina, splendor without any problem😅

Yes and Scooty too But it depends on the person. Adv and particularily the bigger ones give an advantage, you can do it in lower cc motorcycles ..

Himalayan has amazing seats. I don't like the grab rail/minor back rest. Also pillion sitting facing side while on saree is not so good.

Nice review, I am also an RE fan owning an Interceptor 650, I love this KTM anytime better than Himalayan for its build quality. One thing is this Adventure Bike needs a professional approach for throttle inputs until you get acquainted with it. Appreciate the engineering on the KTM Duke 390 Adventure

I think you summarised it pretty well...the Adv 390 is a very capable ‘tourer’. Perfect for those whose definition of adventure is munching miles fast & effortlessly, mainly on the tarmac. The electronics package by KTM complements the bike’s touring capability, rather than off-roading.

@athul devil you may use a tyre/tube sealant. It works fine and really saves the day. You can look for one online or at any local tyre store.

Suppose you take 390 adv to offroads and you accidentally hit a large boulder and it breaks your alloy What's more convenient to carry? A spare tube or a spare alloy wheel?

I’m in search for a bike on which I can tour. Shortlisted CB500X, 390 adventure and Himalayan. My criteria are Smooth & Reliable engine, comfortable seat and suspension and bearable maintenance cost. Though 390 adventure is quite tempting, I don’t know about city traffic (engine heat) and hard seat.

Now I have owned ktm adv 390 since 10 months. I can attest to most of his points. Plus 1. Headlight is weak. For night time highway rides, you need to install auxillary lights. 2. Have purchased air seat cushion for my wife as pillion since the seats are not very comfortable.

For vibration, you need to adjust the clutch & gear ratio according to rpm.. then there will be no vibration... I have got this right after purchasing KTM 390 adv & my 2 week riding...

Same here.... head lights should be on handle and not on chassis.....most often these manufacturers think that extra weight will come to handle and it can be shaky for lights.......crazy isnt? All the 100cc bikes could live with it for over 30 years on handle....

Looked like he couldn't digest the better bike here. Though Himalayan is way relief on the tag of RE but cant match 390A in any aspect (except 21" Tyre 😆). A lot of areas wasn't covered.

I am using bs6 Himalayan since feb. I really like the 390 Adventure as well but when you have to pay for it, the decision becomes straight forward. My father is already scolding me for buying the Himalayan at 2.5 lakhs 😅

Tires can be changed easy fix, most guys prefer hard suspension and hard seat for long tour and off road. KTM adventure 390 has an adjustable mono-shock suspension.

himalayan is a half the spec in terms of Adv 390, so a rider coming from himalayan needs time to get used to the torque and power of a ktm. Don't think 2 days is enough to give a tech spec comparison of the bike. I think himalayan should be compared to the upcoming Adv 250. Spoke wheels is available in the ktm power parts catalogue. I am a Himalayan rider and the spoke wheels with abs is a nightmare when it comes to flats . The only grip I have is the handle bar, that can be changed with after market handle from art of motorcycles. Adv 390 is a entry level adventure bike while himalayan is a starter level adventure bike but both are not off road bikes at all. There is another obvious point that was missed. Quality of parts is definitely better in ktm than re any day. But that's like comparing worse with bad and saying bad is better. I have had parts fall off or break in the himalayan randomly. Ktm also has issues but too few compared to the frequency of RE.

Firstly, please note KTM adventure 390 is not meant for hardcore offroading and its basically an adventure tourer. Secondly, this seemed more of a roasting for KTM rather than its review which is not expected in a reputed channel like MotorBeam. I own a ADV 390 and trust me its much better than the reviews provided in this video. Nothing against Himalayan coz I'm a RE fanboy too, but comparing the electronics, power and features I feel the ADV 390 is much better in this segment (except the price though)!!

I had a Rx 100 - 1993 model Passion xpro 2012 model R15 2014 model RE himalayan 2020 model ( m80 and gixxer -2016 model left my garage due to some issues)

Major Alan Dutch Schaefer i used to ride hero ismart in worst road in my village area ( fully mud) I had no issues with it...if you had skills it doesn’t matter the bike (I agree)✌🏻 But once when ride An off-road bike in those muddy roads, I bet you can’t go to the older bike

"Low end is poor"? No. The lower gears are short. May be shorter than the Himalayan but the bike has plenty of torque.

Come on bud... how can an adv have the same engine like a streetfighter the duke 390... for an adv u need bottom range torque which is missing in this case... so engine is let down and even the absence of spoke wheels doesn't justify the adv390 tag

Actually need 200/250 Himalayan so we could go on a long ride with good fuel efficiency comfortable ride,and we could use it for daily short use too. But I have done lot more hard tarains,flood ride and 500KM touring on my pulsar 135LS the issue is uncomfortable. In our country we couldn't afford much on petrol so expecting a low cc mainly comfortable more than Himalayan do.

Whenever a reviewer from India, Says adv 390 isnt that off road capable and they would give less ratings, Just see Adam Riemann on youtube when he launched adv 390 in India. Just some other person's perspective shouldn't be the ultimate lines. Although its a good review but guys , the adv 390 launch event said a lot about riding skills we need to develop. Just search adam riemann adv 390 launch and then u go and see the apne guys reviewing the adv 390 and saying this aint a good offroader.

RE has one and only (so-called) off-road that it is trying to improve hard for so many years and may succeed some day. The top favourite of us all - bullet standard - is yet to appear on youtube for review....😂

Guys , if u want to buy a KTM, go for Duke390 in this segment. The ADV is really not worth the extra money. You’ll be left confused why you bought this if u did this in a hurry. The Duke390 does everything this bike does with a lower cost.

It's too late for the reply. But as a himalayan owner, i would say you should go for adv250 if you have to commute through cities. Himalayan in city is really not easy. Also on long stretch highways, adv250 have a good topspeed and topspeed refinement. You can choose Himalayan if you're into 'offroading and touring'. Hope this helps.

A 120kg guy reviewing a really small bike => be very cautious when considering these opinions as an overall truth. (even for americans, where the average weight is around 80kg) The Himalayan looks more spacious for large persons although I have not tested it personally.

it is a road bioust tourer not a of road machen and himalayan has no relybility it has five gears and a air cooled eingine and ktm has a liquied eingine 6 speed sliper cluch and quick shifter and it has 43 bhp and 37 nm of tourqe it is better than himalayin in everyway.

you just need to learn how to tide the KTM there is a video that shows the KTM dose the off road better than the Himalayan , I have the KTM and have never ran it to any thing it would not go through with ease, and have done some pretty Gnarly gravel and dirt roads as well as some trails. My DR 650 is better off road but the KTM will handle it no problem. Sounds like you need some riding time on different bikes, not all handle the same, but with learning the ups and downs of each, will find that what you though, through lack of knowledge, will change greatly with some time learning about the bike. The Himalayan and KTM 390 Adventure are to different bikes but bough will handle off road, very good, and with know how the KTM will come out slightly ahead and when it comes to road the KTM is the clear winner.

The brakes on the Himalayan are shit. You would probably go into the car infront of you in an emergency situation. My wrist was swollen after a few hours of riding it and manipulating it's brakes.

I smashed my BS4 R E Himalayan (Dec 2016) in to a Maruti who took a sudden U turn very close in front of me. My bike broke into 2 pieces Both Car Driver and Myself had lots of injuries I have a steel plate inside my left wrist. Himalayan Brake is not upto any good standard.
