He should be banned from driving until he can prove he no longer has substance abuse problems and he should be given full access to all the help he needs. My brother (an Army Ranger) spent 6 deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan and when he was discharged it was astonishing how many hard meds the VA had prescribed for PTSD. This officer needed to face the consequences of his actions but I really hope he is able to get off of everything.

One of my friends who was in a Stryker brigade was (eventually) being prescribed 400-500mg of Oxycontin a DAY from the San Francisco VA. He had to lie to his doctors about smoking weed because since it was a federal agency, they didn't recognize any legality of weed despite being in f'ing San Francisco of all places. He finally got a new doctor assigned to him, she was more into holistic medicine. He told her he smoked weed and she said that if it was helping him, he should continue doing it, and slowly weaned him off the 400-500mg of Oxycontin. Once they had weaned him off, he told me that while the weed obviously didn't kill his underlying pain completely as much as the Oxy (he had a shoulder replacement, hip replacement, etc. from an IED blast) he preferred to not be addicted to pills anymore.

Pink isn't usually used for sleeping pills. They are usually blue, purple or another dark color to indicate that they should be taken in the evening or *when it's dark out.* This goes the same with OTC sleep aids like Nytol or cold medications that have day/night doses. This is how it is in Canada, I can't say the same for the US, but, I doubt they do it differently since we are economically and geologically joined "at the hip." The fact that he is/was SWAT is what struck me. That's scary dangerous for citizens and fellow officers. Poor dude. This arrest (or the next one) is probably the best thing to happen to him. Hope he gets the help he needs. Probably being a vet was part of his problems.

To this 1st offender. It is in fact illegal to eat, drink or use any cell phone while operating a motor vehicle. On duty officers, sometimes, have to do that and that is forgivable in certain situations. But not a regular practice.

5 mg of hydrocodone is usually a starting introductory dose to opiates for new and non tolerant patients. His demeanor is pretty clear he had more than 5 mg in his system. I would say upwards to 20+ mg is what would reproduce this in a large male that are new to opiates, and even more for tolerant ones. I remember my attending once jokingly said some abusers need so much opiates to feel nornal that the opates in a dew drop of their bloods would be enough give analgesics affects to sensitive new patients. This when i first started my rounds years ago and the patient in question was on iv dilaudid and fentynal suckers 24/7 it was mind blowing.

The fact that he, in response to the investigating officer doing his job correctly, in a great example of the pervasive cop mentality of having no expectation of personal responsibility nor accountability, says "I understand todays society". This simple statement really sums up where the modern cop mentality resides. Edit: Yes, I know it's not all of them, but it's way too many, and most of the good ones are bad by association and or for being cowards by not speaking up when needed.

Addiction is sad and insidious. It doesn't discriminate. Although I am not always a fan when I see police officers getting into this kind of stuff, nor a die hard pro police supporter, but I feel for the guy and don't want to judge him as he is justa human being. Years ago when I was in my 20s, following my best friend's death, I got myself in a similar situation as this man and my life turned into shambles. Lost my job, filed for bankruptcy and basically lost everything else except my supportive family (Bless their hearts). I went into rehab and it changed my life. I hope this man gets the help he needs. We don't know the pain he's dealing with internally that led him to this habit and dysfunction in his life. Nothing, but the wishes for him.

If he werent a cop they would have pulled him out of his car, screamed in his face, handcuffed and thrown him into the back of a squad car. They also would have accused him of lying every time he gave some weak answer about his prescriptions, or not being able to sleep. Even when they are held accountable theres always two classes of citizen and they will always treat their own humanely while treating everyone else like dogshlt.

I was arrested for a dui and they were extremely chill with me. They actually didn’t charge me for possession when a bunch of pills fell out of my pocket as I was getting out of the car. They never even spoke of it in the report. They also allowed me to call my girlfriend and took the cuffs off as soon as we were settling in at the police station.

I had to take hydrocodone after dental surgery. I ofc followed the prescription and I still got so drowsy, it's a wonder how I didn't fall asleep at my desk. I made sure I was always at least three hours out from my last dose before I had to drive anywhere or I would wait to take it till after I drove. Even if this officer was taking the correct dose I can't imagine thinking driving an hour after taking hydrocodone is a good idea, that's when it would really hit for me. I personally didn't like the feeling and I was happy when I didn't have to take it anymore. I hope anyone with addiction to that stuff gets help.

I was in LE for about 7 years and had to have CE and Wet labs for my yearly required continuing education hours to keep my Peace Officer license here in Texas. There’s HGN and VGN testing that they perform in those classes lol and I bet he wouldn’t have passed them it were performed on him at this point 😂

It’s sad that this officer lost his SWAT career because of his addictions. Drug and alcohol addictions are a hell of a monkey on your back. I was prescribed Oxy after a tooth procedure. It was amazing. My tooth pain was a 9 out of 10 & the Oxy absolutely zapped my pain, my pain level was at zero. I took it for 2 days and didn’t need it after that. I never even finished the bottle, I guess I don’t have an addictive personality. Some people absolutely do have addictive personalities & they have to really be careful with alcohol and drugs.
