Well, pardon my poor-English-speaking, over excited brethren in the comments who find every problem as Armenian/Greek (same goes for the other sides). What these stories generate, whether suicidal attacks, bayonet charges in unfavorable conditions or rolling Chinese heads down the hills, is that there was certain desperation. Red scare was a thing for Turkey too, and Turkey had to prove themselves as a militarily competent country. The numbers sent weren't the greatest, but the effect was in there, hence the NATO invitation. Hell, even the general operations commander of Turkey in Korea, later became to be known as the father of armored battalions. There were no armored vehicles in Turkish inventory at the time. NATO supplied all. Moves that were made during this war might seem as barbaric, or least meaningful, but soldiers were constantly reminded that salvation of their country was on their hands. They held to their friends tightly, and they held to their positions even tighter, because they were told that if NATO was unsatisfied, they would disappoint their motherland, and cause the destruction of the country. So it is not a surprise that the most famous photo of Turkish belligerents was a soldier giving the "thousand-yard stare," covered in blood meanwhile his commander commemorate the soldier's success in the battle. Desperate times create strong and willing people folks, just like the saying goes.

Turks are peace-loving people, but when it comes down to it all are born soldiers. The Turkish Brigade (code name North Star, was a Turkish Army Infantry Brigade that served with the United Nations Command during the Korean War between 1950 and 1953. Attached to the U.S. 25th Infantry Division, the Turkish Brigade fought in several actions and was awarded Unit Citations from Korea and the United States after fighting in the Kunuri Battle. The Turkish Brigade developed a reputation for its fighting ability, stubborn defense, commitment to mission, and bravery.

The Turkish government sent an infantry brigade of more than 5,000 people to participate in the "United Nations Army." This brigade is a very tenacious force in the "United Nations Army." In the first battle, they swooped against a "Chinese army" of thousands of people. After fierce fighting, they killed hundreds of "Chinese soldiers" with the famous Turkish machete and captured more than 200. It was later discovered that it was part of the Sixth Division of the South Korean Army.

I've heard a similar story from the son of US Korean war veteran. He said that an American soldier had disrespected a Turkish officer. So the Turks took the American soldiers into his camp and were about to harm or even execute him. So a US officer told his American soldiers 'Don't worry, I will get him back and make sure the Turks pay for this' Then he went to the Turkish camp and met with an officer, but it went bad for him and he was afraid they would start beating him next and feared for his life. I forget the rest of the story, but I think he basically just left and was happy to even escape himself and said to not harm the American's soldier too much.

He told me another story how no one believed the Turks advances and claims of so many kills they were getting (as US and Korean forces were stuck for months). You are right I didn't look at my source, I was using the Peak Strength numbers meaning the most they had in country during the war. The actual estimated numbers for all countries invovled on the UN side are Korea - 602 920 United States - 326,863 United Kingdom - 60 000 Canada - 27 000 Australia - 17 164 Turkey - 15 000 Philippines - 7 420 Thailand - 6 500 Colombia - 6 200 Netherlands - 5 300 Greece - 5 000 New Zealand - 4 500 I didn't include some countries as i figured this was enough, but as you can although Turkish contribution was significant, the Korean, United States, UK, Canada and Australian contributes all rank hire, as this reflects merely boots on the ground, not the naval contributions of the US Navy, the UK which sent a large number of ships, the RCN which sent 8 destroyers, etc. I don't want to start an argument, but I believe that re can't rewrite history, and if you are going to make a statement like above you should be able to back it up.

Justin Mielke Not a troll. Cenk is a genocide denier. You don't need to watch the whole video to know that a channel named 'TheYoungTurks' is probably going to deny the period of 1915-18 and the Genocide commuted by the original 'YoungTurks'

Cenk, Canada sent almost twice as many troops to the Korean conflict, and the US sent 90% stop acting like Turkey sent just as many. I know it's your heritage but get your facts straight.

D. White YES..Turkey sende only 5.000 man. But keep in mind Turks are not ordinary soldiers. They are always prepared to die and fight with everything They have. When Usa and Turkish troops where inside an Enemie trap Turks where the one Who wanted to fight the enemy. Turks fought made an open gateway inside the enemy front so American and Turkish soldiers could go out. Otherwise an very important part of Usa soldiers would be improssend and the war in South Korea would have been lost.
@galen1077 жыл бұрын
Turkey did send 15 thousand troops during the 3 year course of the way, but D. White is correct Canada contributed about 8 destroyers, and approximately 27 000 troops. This has nothing to do with defaming Turkey, or being pro Canada, facts are facts, Turkey did a significant contribution, compared to some nations, however it was no where near the most significant.

I'm Turkish person who lives in the states. I've encountered some Korean war veterans. Once they learn that I'm Turkish, they would tell stories they have encountered in the war. Almost all of them mentioned how brave Turkish soldiers were in Korea. One even mentioned that Chinese soldiers specifically focused on Turkish camp. I would not prefer to tell details as you can imagine it's a war.

The fact in battlefield is not numbers, in war, doesnt matter how many you are, the matter is how brave you are. Thats why when you talk any korean war veteran or korean people, they talk about turkish brigade. In warfield numbers is nothing, because in the end every man has only 2 option, die with honour, run with shame. Thats a personal situation.

How about mentioning the fact that during the Korean War the Americans had to separate the Turkish and Greek contingents because the Turks wanted to fight the Greeks rather than the Koreans???

Homomemus Turkey was neutral until near the end of the war when they joined the allies. I hate it when people confuse WW1 and WW2.
