Jae INSISTED that HE would put the iron away. Ernestine was about to put it away, he stopped and promised her that he would. She emphasized the importance of putting it away 2-3 times, and he said he would DO IT. And as soon as she left, he got distracted by going into the refrigerator. He did intent for Ava to be hurt, he just did not listen to Ernestine's sense of urgency about putting the iron away. Jae isn't a Bad Father because of this incident, but he is a Neglectful Father for many reasons. Does he Love Ava? Yes! But Love isn't enough. Ava is a toddler, they get into everything...accidents happen and it is important to be safe. But Jae has always been neglectful, he has never provided care for Ava without the support of Ernestine or some other Woman. When Ernestine was sick, he didn't even cook for Ava, Dr. Faith had to bring her food. He brough Alexis' unstable behind into their home so he could have a fling. Jae is drunk 90% of the time. Even though, Ava having the iron drop in her was truly an accident... Offenses add up. Irons are serious tools. Toddlers have little bodies. CPS is a business, and they make BIG MONEY off Black Families to tear them apart. Over 80% of Children (especially Minority Children) are in Foster Care instead of resources and services being provided to the Family to insure reunitification. Unless a Child is experiencing EXTREME harm and/or neglect be careful... That system IS NOT what you think it is.
