At a young age (about age 7 to 12) I did wrestling for about 5 years. I know take downs and ways to restrain and pin my opponents. In high school a friend found out that I used to wrestle and he always said he could take me in a match. We're roughly the same size/weight and he always said he could do it and pestered me all the time, even tried to provoke me into wrestling him. He has no wrestling experience and always considered himself a "tough guy". One day I eventually had enough - he kept trying to grab my leg and do his version of a single leg takedown. I told him if he didn't stop I'd make him. He finally won! He now thinks he got my permission to keep harassing me. He comes in "hard" and we lock up and he tries to do a single leg takedown again and I give him a hard face bar that knocks him off balance and he falls backwards. I let him roll from his back to his stomach to try and get up and that's when I got the upper hand by getting in the mount position, taking control of his arm, flipping him on his back and putting him into a banana split (or as we called it on my wrestling team a "spread eagle"). He gave up quick and never bothered me again.

It's worth repeating that someone being a 'pro fighter' does not, in itself, mean they are good at boxing. I don't mean 'they claimed to be so good and weren't' either because I know someone who will tell you, and he thinks its comical, he really was a pro-fighter. He was. He really was paid money to box in a professional card. twice! Oh, he will laugh and tell you he was awful. He was a guard at a casino and got a license and when a proper opponent dropped out at the last minute he filled in. He would tell you he literally 'made it up as he went' just copying what he saw boxers do. He wasn't fake. He really did get in a few shots and really did get dropped and so on. but, he is correct, he was a professional fighter (twice actually) 0-2 and he has every right to call himself that too.
