I the uk 🇬🇧 if you get sentences of 4 years and over you have to serve a mandatory 50% of your sentence before being considered for parole and the only way you might get out early is due to over crowding then sometimes you get what's called executive release which is early release but with a ton of restrictions ie ankle tags curphews and no going to the pub or the local store for alcohol so its still pretty bad, I don't understand how that guy served only 1 year out of a 5 year sentence...
