This is true. We will always love Jack! I love that the show has honored his memory by naming the school after him, Elizabeth is caring for his horse so one day his son can have him etc. Jack loved Elizabeth and didn't want her to be alone. I think it's good she is now finding love again. What disturbs me is why anyone would think Jack would want his Elizabeth with a professional gambler , a saloon owner, an admitted cheat, a man with a night life just to name a few. Lucas is not the kind of man Jack would want to be a stepfather to his sweet son. I hope she makes the better choice.

Elizabeth wasn't smiling when lucas the professional gambler taught a 10 year old a card trick. She was angry! She wasn't smiling when the saloon owner with shady ties ( who admitted to cheating someone);almost got her killed in said saloon. She wasn't smiling when he violated her trust and again angered her by sending off her writings without her permission. He disregards her boundaries by manipulating a date in the library. He lives a night life and is not a family man. I have to ask myself what the noble Jack Thornton would think of this man being a stepfather to his son. However I do like the character ( and chris) and think he adds alot to the show. I would like to see them do better for him by giving him someone who embellishes the dynamic character he plays not reduces his role to a diaper duty dad going home to a teacher grading papers. I hope they give him someone who will give to him not just take.

Enjoy the acting not so sure about the period setting being as accurate as can be to really enjoy it. Or the speech. Some of the lingo I know is meant to appeal to modern audiences but come on. Man, Lucas was very sweet and such a gentleman in this episode. BUT, I'm still team Nathan, first and foremost because I think he has "chemistry" with baby Jack (Elizabeth too of course). And it's so sweet to watch how he takes care of niece Allie- he's a great father figure. Over the top romantic gestures are fun to watch, but Elizabeth needs someone like Nathan as a partner and role model for her son. I like Lucas, but just not for Elizabeth. I don't see the same child "chemistry" coming out of him. Plus he looks quite a bit younger than Elizabeth. And a gambler/saloon owner as baby Jack's step father, even if he's a nice guy? Naw...Nathan, step up your game!

Just because this recently popped up on my KZbin app, I just have to clarify a few misleading statements about Lucas. Yes, he said he cheated at cards once (and the only time ever cheated at anything)., but he also explained to Nathan that he cheated Amos Dixon( a cruel loanshark) because Amos D. was cheating first. Lucas was trying to win the bet to pay off a widow's loan since this cruel loanshark kept demanding more and more from her. Lucas had actually rescued the widow from a burning building set fire by the loanshark (Amos Dixon). That was the one only time according to Lucas that he ever cheated. Also, Elizabeth was not upset with Lucas because he taught Allie a card trick, but rather, because she mistakenly thought Lucas has taught her to gamble! Allie did use the trick to gamble at school, but Lucas did not teach her the gambling part! Guess we would have to adk Nathan how she learned to gamble since he is her guardian! Actually, the next morning @school Elizabeth explained to Nathan that Lucas only taught Allie a card truck, and added that she believed his heart was in the right place ❤ And he did have good intentions, for Lucas understand stood how Allie felt about going to new schools so often and having to try to make friends. He had experienced the same, and so taught her a card trick to help her break the ice and make friends at school.!!!!

I had to laugh at a thought today...with all the attention on one female character...what's with all the other most eligible widows populating Hope Valley...what are they, 'chopped liver'?!?!?? @Hearty Fan Did I say she had obligations to Nathan? Nope...All I said was that it is normal for him to be jealous and it is. She knows he's interested in her. I didn't say she couldn't go. All I said was that his feelings were normal and justified and they are. I would feel jealous too. Lucas is trying to buy her affections with fancy tickets and dinners. Sorry not my thing. I much prefer the type that Is quieter and makes me things.....like handmade from the heart wooden signs with Emerson quotes on them. My opinion is that Nathan is better suited for her than a saloon owner and gambler. The story has always been about a mountie and a teacher, not a teacher and saloon owner. In my opinion Nathan would also make a better father for Jack. He's already proven that he can be.

@@jamiefratacci8006 I woudn't exacly said he try to buy her affection. It's normal to ask someone oout to date, and he did pay attention to what she likes, so his offer was very personal. You could say he try to buy her affection if he picked random event that 'women likes' or something. I also think the story was about Elizabeth and Jack, and even then, it was clear Elizabeth is main character.

@Hearty Fan people criticize Nathan and they are very mean sometimes but that's ok, when someone say something about Lucas it's a problem.He is not genuine,he does things to impress and not because those things are a reflection of his true character.Beside,you can see on his face that he cannot be trusted,he will betray Elisabeth.

@@Shiloh_lenney actually he will betray her, because if if you read the stuff for the episode titled new possibilities you will see that it says Elizabeth feels betrayed by Lucas. This means that he either did something in the episode titled Into the Woods, or he did something in the beginning of the episode new possibilities. Either way he does betray her.

Has anybody noticed that when both Mounties or just the men in general, when they get mad they chop wood. Jack, when Charles proposed, and Nathan when Lucas asked her on a so called date. When Nathan’s hair was flapping around, if Elizabeth could have seen him then, you could have been sold lol 😂
