Bostons are very different from larger breeds. They are very social dogs by nature. I have had them all my life and I am 70. Just got a pup 4 months ago, and knowing he was on the way, I sanitized my yard and removed any and all things from the fenced yard that he might chew on and choke or whatever. My other two dogs are fully vaccinated at all times and are mostly house dogs, when they do leave the house it is for car rides only. I have never taken any dog of mine to a dog park, as that is THE place to pick up just about anything and also can be dangerous not knowing how other dogs behave. I kept my pup to myself and away from my other dogs for three weeks. I do that to cement the bond and pack leader thing and it has always worked great for me with Bostons. I also have a very large English Bulldog and the pup was not allowed to be around him unless I was holding him for a face to face meet and greet. When pup was agile enough and confidant around the two other Bostons, I allowed two to three "playtimes" for them. The older Bostons don't need constant pestering from a young pup and if allowed to do so can in my experience make the older dogs unhappy and even loose their good tempers if a pup is harassing too much. I also believe that a pup doesn't need to be running around the house with an established pack too much UNTIL I have been able to get some control via training commands over the pup. I know what has worked for me over the years and he is right to say that ANY person bringing a dog into their life needs to do extensive research and know the breed characteristics and be totally prepared to deal with everything in a responsible way or else the pup is doomed from the get go and may well be trotted off to the pound/shelter when they are not well trained and cared for. I believe that raising a dog from a pup is pretty much the same as raising a human baby, it takes dedication, love, patience, and knowledge.
