A lot of cars exist and a lot of cars will exist. Automakers keep wanna making them. However, not every project is as fruitful as all the ones before it because occasionally, cars are canceled before they get the chance to be sold to you, the customer. Finally, we can pay tribute to our forgotten soldiers.

I don't really get why American automakers are addicted to scrapping their prototypes. Also, speaking of Chery, Chery once tried making a small FWD convertible, but it never made it to production.

Usually in the US they're scrapped because they don't have VINs due to not being production cars. They can't be sold as a production unit due to differences and liability in an accident. So then it's only good for a museum or scrap. One of those options costs money, the other generates it. So unless it's something very special it's usually an easy choice for those in charge of such decisions

I... Lowkey wanted to know why the Flavia gets a negative sales figure... Also one of my favourite story about cancelled car was the Smart Formore. Smart wanted to sell something for the US Market so they developed the Formore. It was supposed to based be produced in Brazil instead of the Smartville factory in France. But in the end DaimlerChrysler decided to scrap the project due to financial reason (Development of the Formore costing too much money while DaimlerChrysler decided to focus on making Smart profitable). In the end, Smart makes its US debut in 2008 selling the Fortwo. While the concept version remains lost until 2009 when someone found it on a Mercedes warehouse (It was supposed to be showcased on 2005 Frankfurt Auto Show but Smart decided not to)

9:30 TLDR: The B13 became the 威尔BHJ6490 by PLA Air Force 5720 Factory, which primarily supplies parts for aircraft repairs. Here's the thing few people really caught on: Both the 5720 Factory and the Chery headquarters are located in Wuhu City, Anhui. Very likely Chery offloaded their unused stock of B13 bodykits to a neighboring factory that wanted some fleet vehicles for factory use. Chery still needed the engines so the BHJ6490 was equipped with a very low-powered engine from a different supplier other Chery.

Proton may not have ended up making their own Evo, but the general public did, which is why it’s very hard to find an actual Evo 1-3 there
@yugenboy
@yugenboy 15 күн бұрын
@@bmoboss And even if it's actually an Evo 1-3, you would probably have to take a long time to confirm it. Doesn't help that some/most of the retired PERT cars were sold through the newspaper classifieds as Evo 1-3s back then (Even though they are). But I guess back on topic, there would be more examples under the brand: - "Sepang" which became the Lotus Europa S and then somewhat revived as the "Lekir" concept in 2010. What's interesting is that there are patents of the Proton-badged version of the Europa S back in 2004, when both cars were in development. - A wagon version of the 2nd generation Saga was spotted being towed. But it was more likely a test-mule than anything else. This wasn't the first time Proton had tried to make a wagon out of an existing model as a prototype of an "estate" version of the Wira was spotted around the 90s as it was presumed to be made before the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis (Which could play a part in the cancellation of their Putra/Coupe WRC programme around that time.) - A potential replacement model of the Perdana came as the form of a Mitsubishi 380 prototype back in 2008, presumably for internal evaluation. Not even Proton could salvage the 380 from its demise. The Perdana nameplate returned from 2013-2020 as a rebadged Accord. - A mock-up prototype of a Tiara replacement was made from rebadging a Citroen Saxo in 1997, as the Tiara was a rebadged Citroen AX. But proven how unpopular the Tiara was, it never materialised for production.
@petrolweeb
@petrolweeb 15 күн бұрын
Also a lot of Proton models was planned to be Citroen based (Including a plan to rebadge the Saxo as a Proton) but didn't happen due to similar reason. Only model that was managed to be sold was the AX based Tiara. But that was a flop in the end

@@yugenboy The Saga Wagon and Perdana 380 are the two models i wished it became a reality. - The Proton Saga have been the car that i would want to have it as my first new car. The sedan looks nice, but i'd wished they also provide the wagon body and even returning the liftback "Aeroback" models. Heard the upcoming 4th gen may return the hatchback model, but i doubt it'll either be the "wagon hatchback" or "aeroback hatchback", and instead likely be Iriz replacement. - I've always fantasises the idea of Perdana not being the 8th gen accord rebadge (specifically the government use from 2013-2016, the home design from 2016-2018 looks pretty nice). The 380-based might've been a nice contender to the Aurion-based Camry and 8th-gen Honda Accord. And with some old speculation considering Nissan Fuga for Perdana's new body, it'll be a coincidence replacement since Mitsubishi is now under Renault-Nissan Alliance.

One thing that wasn’t mentioned was the Ford Thunder. Created by SVT as a test vehicle, just like the Lightning it was a supercharged sport truck. But instead of a pickup, it was based on the f-150’s SUV brother the Expedition. Only 1 was produced, and never went into production because the truck was basically at the last or 2nd to last year of its production cycle. And neither the Thunder nor the Lightning were going to be coming around for the next production cycle, so the project was scrapped. Technically you can make one and I’m surprised it’s not been done on KZbin somewhere yet. But with how rare Lightnings are to begin with, I can see why. All you do is take the body off an expedition and put it over a lightning frame. It all bolts up and only wiring ends to be addressed for the expedition interior lifting and stuff.

my new favourite youtube channel :) keep up the work as for cancelled cars - what happened to the DeTomaso SLC from 2012? brand rebooted with suv-coupe model, got 1 450 orders from people, and nothing since that, no production started

I couldn’t find anything on what happened to the slc, but I do know that DeTomaso got a second revival, and it’s making more traditional supercars now. The P72 is supposed to go into production in the tail end of this year, although I doubt it’ll happen

4:18 that grill on the Taurus front end looks a lot like the EA Falcon we got in Australia in 88. Why are front wheel drive cars so popular in the states? For non muscle / sports cars obviously. I mean they are both gone now, but well into the 2010’s the two locally manufactured family sedans from Ford and Holden (GM) were still rear wheel drive in Australia.

Easy, it's more for North states where they get snow and they're cheaper than getting a AWD/4WD, also you can blame the Japanese as FWD into the 1980s was more of a luxury thing for the American brands being used in 2 vehicles, the Oldsmobile Toronado (Which was the first mass produced FWD) and the Cadillac Eldorado, while for the rest of the word they used it for small econo boxes to save room

Man, sad that Saab 9-5NG (and the 9-3NG 3rd gen Phoenix version) never made it into long term production, let alone the hatchback variant, which probably my favourite variant as it reminiscing to the 900/9000 models, and love it's odd liftback design. Other models that i'm sad that never made into production: - Range Rover Vogue 2 Door (same goes for any 2-door SUVs) - Hyundai R-class like model (I like the R-Class at it looked like MPV/Wagon instead of Popular Crossover) - Ford Taurus 1st gen with conventional grill - Dodge Calibre (Lancer based instead of the crossover)

I got to experience this first hand, in 2019 i was working for a company manufacturing seats for JLR, when they announced production of a 3-door luxury Range Rover SV Coupe, with only 1000 to be produced. We've built some prototype and pre-production seats for the cars, but after 6 sets or so, the project got cancelled, and i don't know what happened with those seats we've made.

2 great examples I can mention is the B32A was supposed to be a Nissan Almera replacement that rode on nissans C-platform and was supposed to be a conventional hatchback. However it got cancelled around 2002 during design stage as they couldn't figure out how to make it profitable. Instead we got the Nissan Qashqai. Another is that Caterham was supposed to help build the Alpine A110 and Caterham was supposed to have its own version but it got cancelled in 2014-2015 when they could afford to match Renaults development costs

SAAB also continued their Subaru rebadge plans with the 9-6X that was essentially a facelifted Subaru Tribeca with a SAAB front end treatment. Two ready prototypes exist but when GM sold it's stake in Subaru the 9-6X was cancelled. Actually, many of the 9-6X design changes were used for that Tribeca facelift as the 9-6X was designed first.

skoda in early 2000s conquered market, so vw was definitely worried that their sub brand would surpass them and they kinda stopped then from developing their own quirky identity. i love early 2000s cars in general because i read about them in magazines when i was i kid. good times. and good video as usual

Its kinda funny too seeing this kind of video, because google showed me a auction article of a prototype eVan that was made by a failed automobile company responding to the rising trend of newer delivery vans. And yea- one of their prototype went up for auction, appealing the van to the van lifers who want to drive and live in something pretty unique

In the year 2000, timor, one of the early indonesian car brand, planned to selling rebadged 1st gen kia sportage as timor j520i in indonesia. But the idea got axed as the brand itself stopped operating caused by WTO dispute in 2000 wich decided that the indonesian national car program was deemed unfair. I dont know how many of this being produced. And as im aware, theres only a single old photo of this rebadged sportage on the internet, completed with the timor logo on the grille.
