All born within 30miles of Celtic park.Just an absolutely stunning fact, never to be repeated. Also, they really should be considered in the poll for the best that Britain's produced. They also had a genius manager who changed European football single-handed.

In those days Scotland had these world class players who hardly ever played for the national team ////// Baxter only 30 odd caps , Jimmy Johnstone 25 , Eddie Gray 12 and later Allan Hansen 25

@@michaelparkin6974 We had the same in Sweden; my favorite player as a kid was probably the best dribbler in Europe in the late 60's and early 70's- yes, I know about Jimmy Johnstone and George Best. His name is Roger Magnusson and had his best years as a player for Olympique Marseille and he only got 14 caps for Sweden. Lennart "Nacka" Skoglund, iconic player in the 50's and part of the 1958 World Cup all stars team only got 11 caps.

@@michaelparkin6974 Bobby Murdoch only got 12 Scottish caps. He scored 6 goals in those 12 games, which is some record for an inside right, but he only got the 12 games for Scotland.

Can you imagine if Jimmy Johnstone was playing today? Every big club in the UK and Europe would be bidding for him and I he'd be worth at least 200 million or more, It would be hard to put a price on Jinky , He was one of the greatest dribblers of all time. In fact both Celtic and Leeds of that era would be priceless and when Giles was playing he was called Johnny Giles.

I've many memories from those games,particularly the second leg. I've read the Leeds story,Eddie Grays brother was a good mate back in the day. It's great hearing Johnny Giles again,especially when he speaks of the impact Bobby Collins made at Leeds. Johnny Giles will always have my respect,both as a man,and as a fantastic footballer in his day. Thanks for uploading.

Great player Johnny and he played in a fine side. In fairness Celtic fitted in 5 games in the first two weeks of April 1970 including a cup final so not only Leeds had a fixture pile up. Those days were fantastic and came at a time when the playing field was more level. Money has changed football beyond recognition these days and fans of my age yearn for the days when football was football.

The Lisbon Lions were not only the first team in Britain to lift the European Cup but they also lifted the European Treble and a Quintuple of trophies that Season. If that wasn’t enough they went to the Bernabeu to play Madrid in Di Stefano’s Testimonial ( at his request) in a very competitive game Jimmy Johnstone tore them a new one to the Ole’s of the home supporters and set Bobby Lennox up to score the winner.

@@millwallholdings They weren’t a flash in the pan. Between 1964 and 1974 Celtic won the European cup, finished runners up, and reached four other European semi finals. It’s more than most English clubs and Rangers have managed in their whole histories.

Dumphy is barking up the wrong tree regarding Stein. Stein had captained the club for years and was sought out by Celtic to be manager. Dumphy, somewhat understandably, is repeating a black legend about Stein - ‘two sides of the same coin’ to deflect from a bitterly sectarian Rangers. Big Jock should well have deserved a position in the Celtic boardroom but to say he was denied it due to his religion is a big assumption and one never made by Big Jock himself. Big Jock’s religious affiliation was never an issue with the Celtic support either as a player or manager, it would be strange if it were ever an issue for the Celtic boardroom.

I believe no manager in Celtic's history has had a seat on the board. Jock was offered a seat on the board, and initially accepted it. www.thecelticwiki.com/stein-jock-directorship-offer-1978/

Agreed. Giles also states that Celtic should have given Big Jock a testimonial. They did. I was there along with 67k others to watch Liverpool beat Celtic with Kenny Dalglish scoring a screamer on his return to Celtic Park.

As a Celtic fan, I have to disagree, he didn't get the treatment he deserved, you can debate about whether it was his religion, at the time it was only Catholics that were members of the board.
@vincentmcnabb939

Giles is on record talking about how badly Revie, Ramsay and others were treated when their time was up; it wasn’t just Stein. There is no proof that Stein suffered any peculiar treatment and Stein never claimed so. The Board was a closed-shop family affair and that was that. Stein had no right, and more importantly, no expectation to be on the Celtic board.
