Actually not bad. I’d have started him with the opening chords and solo. Not too hard, and fun to play (as a beginner) and it sounds good. I was not expecting him to do that without messing up (I’m aware it’s not his first take probably) consistency is the hardest thing when you’re a beginner. Proud of him.

That's actually pretty good for a learner, it's a good start. Of course, your fingers are gonna hurt like hell. Worst case scenario your fingers are cut constantly by the strings and would bleed in a very annoying way, believe me, I've been there. As a hobby guitarist, the hardest things about the Freebird solo are: the sheer length of it, the amount of bends that can make uncalloused fingers bleed and having a guitar that will stay in tune after playing all those bends. But hell, it's pretty fun to learn especially if you have a glass slide to play around with.
