I say that all the time. All the folks shouting ACAB and such, they wouldn't last an hour doing the job they do. I worked with the police, out in the field, for years. I saw firsthand what they dealt with day in and day out. I saw them in the office, their vehicles, on the scenes. And when it's really ugly, they still have to finish their shift and be professional with everyone while being screamed at, disrespected, spit on, etc. You have no idea if that officer just spent three hours recovering body parts from an accident that a drunk caused, killing three kids and the parents. Now your mad he's pulled you over for doing 50 in a school zone, recording him while screaming. And yes, they do cry, and grieve, throw up, get scared. I've seen an officer do his job and then sit and sob in his car, heartbroken. Then cleaned up and went on with his day, to deal with it later off shift. I was on the scene when a suicide shot himself in front of the detective (I didn't witness it) and while he did all he had to do in the moment, later when we were being questioned, his hands were shaking and he was quietly praying to himself. Another time, we were at the scene of someone who threw themselves off a 25 story building, and the officer turned and threw up, then crying "no no no no!" Then stood up and went to do their job. Later throughout the day they would suddenly shudder and say (expletive not allowed by Yahoo). They feel pain too. They hurt. They're horrified, heartbroken and sometimes terrified. They're human. The screamers couldn't do their job. They're too busy being offended at the wrong pronoun that gave them PTSD or something.
