All of his actions were illegal and many in uniform feel that they are above the law. I just wouldn't want people to assume he was a police officer as he is not. yeah it's really hard to imagine the frustration you would feel in that moment. These cops follow company policy and not the law. To be perfectly honest the law is subtle and yet incredibly complicated. It's why a patrol officer was never intended to have the same right of interpretation as a judge. We need police, but they don't get the best and brightest. You can't expect cops to know the law as well as a judge, so they should be stripped of like 90% of their investigative abilities. Any invocation of constitutional law should be a required call to a judge or their representative, not the decision of some redneck captain who couldn't understand half the language in the law they enforce. Even if you eventually get justice in court, the process of bail/jail/awaiting trial should be considered one of the most despicable things a citizen can experience.

The problem isn't that "they" don't know...., the problem and issue is they are allowed to play coy and innocently ignorant to the facts and the law. They KNOW what the law is, but if they say it, now they're responsible for that knowledge which will in turn demand accountability. So, which is the easier and most discreet approach or route to take ...? To act as if they don't know the law, even at the expense of looking like they just don't remember or confused. When an individual (cop) is THAT cunning and sophisticated in hiding their deceptions, EVERY booking they have made, EVERY conviction the prosecution have won, should be revisited and reviewed with major scrutiny. (IMHO) Most COPS on the beat or anywhere will not give the the public the same consideration when confronting someone who they KNOW aren't out attempting to commit crimes. SMDH

But most anyone in a courthouse deputy position has had 10-15+ years on patrol for the most part. At a minimum they have to start on patrol. Before moving to the courthouse dept. Due to this I think the officers that have shifted from patrol to courthouse duties become complacent over time due to the less intensive day to day. Need to be held to higher operating standards.

"Should be" and "are" are two very different things. This is why professions like mine require board exams, a license, and continuing education. 1 year after medical school continuing medical education (CME) is required (each state is slightly different). We have to do 100 hours of CME coursework per license period (2 years). Further "at least 6 hours of CME in cultural competency are required". And if we don't, we aren't allowed to work. Period, no questions asked. It's our responsibility to make sure we are competent and keep up with CMEs, cultural changes, new medical cases/treatments, etc. If a video like this one came out with a doctor (or any licensed medical professional) showing a clear lack of knowledge of basic medicine, more than likely the medical board would ban them for life and they would need to find a new profession.

Of course every crimnal feels that way. Obviously you have some issue if you think that is why a police officer joins the force. Meanwhile you would not have the courage to be a cop.But police should have to take a test over laws because you do forget that over time. For example I have a friend who is a lawyer and you specialize because there is no way you are going to effective trying to learn a million laws. Most driver cannot pass the written driver test either, even if they have driven for 30 years because you forget the detail over time like how many feet you stop behind a crosswalk. Most people do not retain their math skill they learn in HS either unless they use it in work. The other issue is that a lot of this filming stuff was illegal after 9/11 and many places have not really changed those laws out. But my feeling people have to video everything just do to be a pain and to annoy others. Which make them mot the best people either.

The fact people like them that are hired to enforce the laws but have no clue what the laws are is insane. Im not going to go to a person claiming to be a doctor that doesn't have a medical degree

When dealing with idiots there isn't much you can do to make them appear intelligent. Can't fix stupid. While watching this I had an urge to reach out and bitch slap that lieutenant, smug bastard and not even a smart one. 27 years, OMG just putting in time for that big pension.

@@thenewtowncryerThis is 90% incompetence with 10% aggression......... However, it can also be argued, that the majority of times where aggression is used, aggression itself is due to incompetence.

I’m British and although I don’t claim to know the American justice system, I *do* know that once a person asks for a solicitor, that’s it! Questioning is *OVER.* These two tw@ts should be sacked and stripped of any badges or awards or whatever it may be and lose their police pensions. It’s absolutely disgusting that both arrogant idiots put that lady through this whole situation. I’m so pleased that lady knew her rights and wasn’t intimidated by them. I sincerely hope the judge throws the book at them both and gives them a grilling on their despicable behaviour.

Here in the US we deliberately hire people who are not overly smart to be police officers. (last I checked) Look it up, it's not a secret.

27 years as a police officer and he couldn't recite the Miranda Rights, are you kidding me. Every case that this man has been involved with at this point is tainted in some kind of way. The Cook County Sheriff's office has GOT to be the most corrupt police department in the country or at the top. Because they are definitely incompetent. 2 officers with over 20 years of experience and neither one of them knew the laws. How can you be a cop and not know the laws, that's like being a doctor and not having any medical training. Somethings going to go WRONG. WTF.
