2011 and 2015 were the most extreme years when it comes to results. 50 points was enough to come 10th in 2015, but not enough to come 23rd in 2011.
@giovanniscg8540 Жыл бұрын
With the new voting system the same applies to 2023 and 2018. In 2023 only 130 points were necessary to hit a spot in top 10 but in 2018 this score would've been translated in a bottom 10 result 😮

@mewliter6902 Жыл бұрын
Main takeaway is that 2011 is a very very weird year on every level to the point of it being such a statistical anomaly. Second is that wow I never really thought that Italy 1984 was sooo polarizing, crazy the voters either had it high or scored nothing at all, especially when it's such a classic (at least to me, robbed despite being top 5 lol)
@SuperJNG18 Жыл бұрын
Italy have been polarizing as a magnet their entire history. They’re remarkable cuz even the countries you’d think would vote for them every time pick the darnedest years to give them nothing (Spain, for instance: two out of Italy’s three wins, the Spanish jury didn’t give them any points…except in 1990, which got their 12. Meanwhile, Norway - a country that actually has voted for Italy pretty often - was one of only two to not vote for Italy at all.)

"Für alle" is a weird entry cuz it managed to broadly appeal to a bunch of countries, some of whom I wouldn't have expected to vote so highly for Germany (12 from Cyprus!), but not their two closest neighbors, Switzerland and Austria.
@xander2609 Жыл бұрын
I've always thought Switzerland and Austria wanted to sabotage Germany. "Für alle" has very beautiful lyrics so it's still more suspicious the other german-speaking countries didn't give it anything. There are other instances of Switzerland and Austria suspiciously marking Germany down in the 80's
@harryrey2771 Жыл бұрын
The Dach-Countries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) never really vote for eachother, they just don't. I don't know why exactly, but there's not much love between those countries when it comes to eurovision, although, in other aspects, we actually are very friendly together. I'm Austrian btw.
@ImStevan Жыл бұрын
due to the nature of the idea, many of these are simply results of blocvoting, where one country scores high in culturally similar countries, and countries with a lot of diaspora, but flops in others. Bosnia 2003 is a perfect example in this video, getting a 12 from Turkey, 8 from Croatia and 7 from Austria, but still finishing 16th out of 26. Honestly surprised Loco Loco isn't on here considering its points breakdown

An excellent upload this is. The equivalent of not studying for an exam until the last minute and doing enough to pass. 2015 has to have the most top heavy top 9 ever. Bojana was lucky to make the top 10. The one year Montenegro should have got the 10th instead of Serbia (in fact higher as it's my #2 of 2015). Vanna was lucky to finish 10th in 2001. Shame she didn't go with 'Kao Rijeka' as that would have been a safe top 5. It'd have been interesting how Dino in 2011 would have done under the system we have now. Ireland 1978, I love that entry. One of their best and such a great vocalist. It wouldn't work now but I'd love Sweden to send something like 1996 again. Lovely song. It's funny how Severina is one of Croatia's best results in recent times (along with Jacques and Let 3). Turkey 2007 helped with a lot of Turkish communities (and a Western styled song) carry it's votes.

Watched both of your videos on this. So interesting to see the UK dominating the other video and the years 2011, and 1984 being repeated so much. One criticism that I have personally is that it gets a little confusing in 2016 and after. Since the juries and televotes are now separate, I would have expected 70-80+ voters instead of 37-43 voters.
