If doctrine makes you lose sight of religion's objective, Izzy the Fink can put it all in perpective. We love him for very good reasons.

The last two minutes of the lecture came as a powerful punch to the solar plexus, late in a grueling boxing match. The ancient Jews were of and arose from the Canaanites.

Finkelstein's logic is impressive and well supported by the evidence but caution beckons us to reconsider at all times.

The name of God is Not to be spoken. It can written As YWHW, or Yahwah if we ad vowels, or Jehovah as in Johovah's Witness' (God's witness') The old Testament had to be edited to remove polytheistic references. Even then the Old Testament tells us that when Moses came down from the mount his people had built a 'golden calf' to worship. A clear sign that polytheism still existed at that time.

Are a so called Jehovah witnesses? If not it would surprise that you haven’t realised that Biblical God is actually ÉL which is Ugarit and not Jewish who’s relationship to IsRælites is actually problematic.

The Israelites may have had a different name for the Phoenicians Who were a loose confederation of cities. The Hittite Empire barely gets a mention as a small "Tribe" in the Bible. (This due to poor WiFi at the time.)

@@weezie808 A bold claim, with nothing to back it up. BTW Cleopatra was a Greek descendent of Ptolamy. The Greek Alexander ( called The Great) conquered Egypt and his generals divided up his Empire and placed Greeks in charge of Egypt. That's why the famous Rosetta Stone had the same thing written in Egyptian hieroglyphics and Greek.

General issue is a lack of knowledge regarding a pastoral way of life since like many modern people Finkelstein missed the fact that pigs where also herded like sheep and goats with a difference that pigs where a animals that where herded in to a forest mainly of oak trees which if destroyed they could be raised on a fields that replaced forest something that suited sheep and goat herding which by default where not a forest animals. Meaning disappearance of forests my resulted in disappearance of pigs which as such was not a result of religious views meaning the insertion of Jews in that era would have no ground like they connection to IsRælites which where a pastoral, shepherd warrior alliance compared to Jews who’s background is merchant-traders without any traces of tribal, pastoral, warrior origins.

I have come across the information/idea that pigs came to the area probably with Cypriot peoples and were popular along the coast among the poorer people as they could be fed more easily than say sheep Forget the details.

Do you have evidence that the hill country was ever covered in forests? Here in Spain the older dehessa system was that pigs were taken to the hillside forests of holly oaks to fatten on the acorns in autumn. They were then killed and their meat smoked to produce the famous hams. This is also the time of year when special biscuits were made using the lard. These are still a treat sold at this time of year even though the poor pigs are now reared intensively in sheds.
