There's a Breakfast Club interview with an unsigned rapper and he was talking about his numbers, it's not as big as people with contracts but he makes far more money than they do. Has far more control than they do. It's a simple question if a person wants to make music or be famous. Because chasing that contract comes with a price and not what the label is going to pay them. In any arena the people who care about the art and what it really is go the hard route like DMX, the starving artist route. In science the same thing happened with Nikola Tesla. Those who're business minded swoop in on those who have a mind for innovation but innovation is bad for their business.
