Great information. One problem I encounter is that it seems that a lot of the records from the part of Mexico where much of my family is from, are not indexed. You have to skip through 100’s of pages searching for your ancestors record. I am usually able to search using a known date. However, as you stated, the records are in cursive and a lot of abbreviations are used and I sometimes struggle with that. I appreciate all the information you are sharing.

It is well known and documented that Mexico had several racial categories.

This is 100% accurate. Many of my mom's side ancestors, and great grand mom's in the state of Veracruz past 1821 close to 1920, still disclosed the race. And on my dad's side many of them were disclosed past 1900 in Hidalgo BUT also on my dad's side, it seems that the race/nationality had to be disclosed if you were a foreigner in this case my ancestors were from Switzerland and France and they were disclosed past 1900

Lol I like the anime jokes here and there. Thanks for this video! Interesting stuff, especially as a good intro to ecclesiastic documents and reading them

How many generations would you think would have to pass for it to not be considered a significant relative? I was able to trace my maternal grandmother side to the Jimenez dynasty and even befor that to King Ramiro 1 of Aragon. Of course that was over a thousand years tho

I found one of my ancestors birth certificate where the father is declaring a child birth but He gave his father, the paternal grandfather of the child, a different wife, finados. The name of his father's wife, which should be his mother's name, the maternal grandmother, is not his biological mother. He did this at least 3 times with different kids birth certificates. Twice with deceased wives and once he put him with his mother in law... they were all deceased at the time of the birth certificate.. why would some one do this🤷♂️

Spain is not a race, nor tribe, only a notion.

They mean the white race when saying Spanish.

White is a concept and recent…at one point. In the 16th and 17th hundreds..East Asians were considered white; and by the early 19th hundred, Italians, Irish, and ect weren’t considered white at one point.
