To dear Ivan, Jane worked in Italy for 3 years means she is no more working there now. On the other hand, if we say Jane had been working in Italy, that means she continued to work there till (a particular time) very recent time, but not now. Hope this will clear your doubts. I really like your explanation. Because it's quiet and clear.👍 I respect all languages, but let me say, I notice that the grammar of the English language changes according to the sentence. Quite the opposite in the Arabic language, the grammar of the Arabic language does not change in different sentences, it is only one and fixed.❤️ We are pleased to join you to learn Arabic Thanks too mach

Hi. We would usually say "He or she is at *the* university." "at university" really does imply being a student. I hope that helps. My next video will be available next Tuesday 5th January in which I will give some news and my plans for the channel in 2021. 🙂 Best wishes, Andrew

I'm a 53 year old American that is STILL learning this complicated language but there are some rules I can do without. "He's in hospital" sounds like broken English to me. He's in a hospital. He's in that hospital. He's in a nearby hospital. It seems there should be some description of the hospital mentioned but just "in hospital" is new to me. I did not grow up hearing that even if it is correct. It is only recently that Americans starting saying it that say. I hear the explanation and I see other similar applications of the rule that sound alright (she's in school) but "She's at university" is broken English to me. "She's at school" fine. "She's in/at college" sounds alright. "She's at university" always gets my ears up. If the person is foreign it seems fine but too often they are Americans trying to not sound like they are American.

@sauravloothra48662 жыл бұрын
It's not complicated sir. Do read some Grammer rules. The is basically use as a definitive article. When it specified in the sentence for something or somebody. In general use we will not use the. Like students are related to school so we don't have to use the before them. But parent went to school which is not their daily task we have to use the before them.

I think it would be more helpful for English learners if you just don't speak out the incorrect examples. I don't know how to explain it best, it's just far less confusing for our brain to manage. Hearing out incorrect examples is totally unnecessary, since it's already in the video, we get a choice to read the obvious incorrect examples or to skip/read pass them. Does that make sense?
