Right. My grandad married my grandmother who was 10 years younger than him. She was 14 and he was 24 and they were married for 60 years. Personally I could never allow my own daughter to have any relationship with a grown man while she's a teen her self but in many cultures it brings a sense of security to the women. The culture here is obviously different, where as women we don't need to marry for the same security but rather we have a choice to marry rather than it being a necessity for survival.

It's all about relatability. What 30 year old and a 18 year old have in common in terms of interest, life stages, goals, maturity levels, hobbies, financial levels, etc. If a 30 year old is able to relate with someone nearly half their age then something is wrong. However, a 25 year old and a 40 year old is different because at that point, they are adults who probably share similar similar goals, aspirations, levels of maturity etc, its been a while since they left school etc. and both have some experience of the 'real' world. If a 30 year old is going for someone under the age of 20, its wrong - why aren't they able to relate and date girls/boys of their own age? If you're 18 and a 30 year old says you're mature for your age, it isnt a compliment - its a ploy to bed you. Who wants the respect of a child-like 30 year old??

I'm saying that if that is the actual reason then you should be able to extend the argument beyond just age to other types of things that affect relatability. Like if someone says that the burgers you eat are making you put on weight because they contain fat, well you can extend the argument and say "if it is the fat the burgers contain that is making you put on weight then eating pizza will also make you put on weight because it also contains fat". It's basic logic I shouldn't have to explain to a grown person. Now I'm not saying age gaps are okay, I think they are wrong, I was just pointing out that the reason given above is not the real explanation for why it's wrong.

I don’t see the problem with 18 and 30, most men want younger girls because of their beauty and obviously their youth. A 30 year old woman the same age as him may not be very appealing to him, she may be too independent or stuck in her ways, ect. 8:45 - the biological answer to "when do we become an adult" is 25. We are all of course different so its more like a range than a definitive number but around 25 is where we biologically as Homosapians stop growing. The reason all cultures have "coming of age" ceremonies younger than 25 is because of the environment. When you have mobs of men just running around killing and pillaging (at LEAST as long as written history) you cant have little "Tony" living till he's 24 before his tribe fully emburden him, simply due to the fact that he might not make it to 24! Better to be a man at 14 have a child at 17; that way at least your blood line is secured for a little while longer! Society is valued on the quality and longevity of the stability which it can provide. A "modern" society should therefor create an environment where each individual can mature naturally (biologically). Even if you don’t know the facts specific to his situation it seems like you weren’t even willing to straight up say the behaviour is UNACCEPTABLE. Only Dan said something along those lines. Even if you don't actually mean that, you make it sound as if at age 25 we suddenly have a leap in our ability to think rationally. This is not true, it's a gradual development from childhood to age 25, with the rate of development decreasing more and more until you reach 25 when development stops. So whilst a 2 year old can think a lot more rationally than a 1 year old, a 25 year old will barely be any better at thinking rationally than a 24 year old due to the slowdown in development. There is no increase in ability to make rational decisions once you reach 25.
