I'm in my '50s and believe it or not I had a media class when I was in middle school that was fantastic. It taught about propaganda, including misleading headlines, loaded emotional language in news articles, subliminal messages, etc. It really did enable me to think critically about the news that I was being exposed to. It's probably one of the reasons I'm on the left. I also have to college degrees and I really feel that that contributes to creating a well-rounded person. A Liberal arts curriculum and the exposure of a diverse population of other students, enhanced my worldview.

There is an opinion piece in this past week's "The Economist" (a magnificent publication that I highly recommend to anyone who likes a pragmatic view of the world) which indicated some very unlikely but plausible "worst case scenario" disasters that could occur in 2025, and one is another pandemic. It's a real concern even though, amazingly, people seem to have forgotten it. During the campaign, I remember Mike Johnson deflecting a tough question posed by Jake Tapper, and the Speaker's response was "I think the American people are thinking if they are better off now than four years ago." Are you kidding me, Reagan wannabe? Four years ago (even from now), the economy was still uncertain, millions of lost jobs, and there was still a pandemic with people dying and NO VACCINE yet available!!! I didn't need to be reminded of that, but somehow, people chose not to remember, forgot, or were brainwashed by rightwing media. It's really hard to support any of these yahoos when their motives are questionable, their abilities grossly deficient of their positions, etc. In the 1980s, there was a commericial for an over the counter medicine, like a pain reliever. The spokesperson said, "I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV." It was well known at the time, and I was always, "HUH??? Why would I want to listen to someone who acts the part but has no qualifications. Pretty much at Trump cabinet nominee or administration official. To understand proper skepticism, one must first build a strong foundation in critical thinking, epistemology, the scientific method, and recognizing fallacious argumentation. Without this foundation, skepticism can become misguided or superficial. Consider atheism as an example. Some atheists base their lack of belief on a solid understanding of evidence and reasoning. These individuals tend to remain atheists because their conclusions are rooted in critical thinking. Others, however, may reject belief in God for emotional or circumstantial reasons, such as anger at their parents or dissatisfaction with a church. Without a foundation in critical thinking, they may return to religious belief later, as their skepticism was never properly grounded. This lack of foundational understanding also explains why many conservative Americans claim to be skeptics but arrive at conclusions unsupported by evidence. For instance, some argue the COVID-19 vaccine is unsafe based on “research” that is either nonexistent or drawn from unreliable sources lacking peer-reviewed data. These individuals often struggle to distinguish between credible evidence and pseudoscience, mistaking contrarianism for genuine skepticism.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out with RFK. It's one thing to spout these baseless claims when you are lone cowboy but the stakes are a lot higher when you are in charge of the nation's health and lives are at stake.
Not your best video. The title asks a question. Then you spent 5 minutes not answering it. All you did was give some examples. To a person struggling to understand the difference, they didn't get a meaningful methodology to understand the difference until almost exactly 5 minutes into the video. Answer the title question, explain the answer, then provide examples. You definitely put the cart before the horse.

THE QUESTION: "When does the healthy skepticism that is set up to challenge authority in a meaningful way, cross the line into paranoid conspiracy delusion?'" 0:18 thru 0:30 THE ANSWER: Never -- as long as science is brought into the equation. Since you've chosen the remain ignorant on the subject..., Dave, allow me to pontificate... First -- one identifies the harmful components that damage human health. Then -- bring in the science to prove it. That is followed by the lawyers to hold the offenders accountable. Finally -- new laws are passed to eradicate the contaminates. This is a tried-and-true way that Kennedy has used for 40 years to keep the high polluting poisoners from damaging human health. The difference now is that more aggression will be applied, those laws will be passed much faster, and the penalties for the offenders will be much greater. Get used to it -- Health is our greatest wealth -- Anyone who argues against that -- Is the one who is delusional..., Dave.

Where was this "science" in Samoa?
@derekray55134 күн бұрын
@@Skililik Not sure which science you're referring to. However, there's plenty of empirical evidence to justify the moves that are about to be made by Kennedy for a healthier country. So, brace yourself. Also be advised that the DNC via the media lies about the Kennedy positions on specific data points. Case in point: They claim that RFK Jr. is antivax. But in his testimony before a congressional inquiry, he stated that he was not "antivax." In fact, he had taken all available and required vaccines throughout his life except the Covid Vax. His position is that some vaccines are manufactured incorrectly which can lead to health problems. And that it's the manufacturing process and the oversight that has to be delt with. Over the next four years you're going to hear a ton of BS about what Bobby is up to. The perpetrators of this BS are scared of him, and they should be. He's about to hand them their asses for the reckless disregard they've shown when it comes to the health of Americans, particularly the children. And it's not just the Dems that have fu*ked up. The Reps share equal blame. And then there's this. Most of us are behind him all the way. So, unless you're going to lend a hand, stay out of the fu*king way.
