I've only ever spent a night in the lockup. I was young and I cried, because I'm a jerk and it happened right in front of my family while we were cooking dinner. A lovely Friday evening with my elderly parents, siblings and a visit from the Australian Federal Police over an unpaid fine I'd forgotten about. Seeing the way she behaved with the cops when she was drunk honestly scared me. If she went to a full on US jail I would hate to think what happened to her.

Friendly touches are no cause for being taken to the ground at any time. ‘Don’t touch me’ is meaningless whine. I’ve seen a drunk on a train platform actually push a cop. That’s here in Japan. Sure, the guy had been causing a disturbance but once the cops came there job was to protect the drunk and get him off the platform. They succeeded. The guy walked off, was not led off, though a policeman was on either side of him. A calm, friendly atmosphere. I’d bet no charges were filed. Usually taken to the station and either contact the family to come get his drunk ass, or put in a taxi.

As far as I know, pleading the fifth applies only in court. As far as i know also, you can't refuse to identify yourself to a cop without incurring more charges. _After_ you have been read your Miranda rights, _then_ you can refuse to answer questions. You can also request a lawyer. Invoking the Fifth before even being in court makes you look like you don't know what you are talking about.

@@lysem4392 nope. you always have the right to remain silent. Someone doesn't need to read you your rights in order for them to kick in lol
@joemason35146 ай бұрын
@@pklar87yes remain silent and don’t tell them your name. Get booked under John / Jane Doe and sit in jail until your fingerprints come back. Then wait for paperwork and a court date which will have an added charge on concealing identity / failure to identify. Great legal advice. Is your degree from the Google School of Law?

It's essential for everyone to respect and cooperate with the authorities, rather than attempting to manipulate or charm their way out of legal issues. These cases are a testament to the professionalism and patience of the police officers involved. Let's hope we all learn from these examples.

Ya know... I can't even be too angry at the second girl. She was, at the very least, cooperative and otherwise surprisingly light-hearted about the situation. She didn't go kicking and screaming, she complied the entire time. Under different circumstances, she seems like she's not a bad person

For anyone questioning cop #2. He's a genius. When people behave like this, epsecially when they're hella intoxicated, this is a great way to get them to accidentally admit shit... because they're drunk, and stupid. The latter not being contingent on the former. Almost all officers I've worked with, when she said, "I hope I'm the cutest..." would've deadpan'd her like, "You're not." and then when she said, "I'm sorry you're stuck with me." would've said, "That makes two of us."

Give credit to the Dad in the first one. He was horrified when he learned what his daughter had done. At least, you could tell that the Dad wasn't going to stand for that.
@The_Real_Mier5 ай бұрын
Dad should not have to be this surprised, considering this is her 4th OWI/DDUI….! That means that she has been driving while intoxicated MANY times before, because they most often do NOT get caught..!! And this kind of attitude/behavior and disrespect for law enforcement is also not something that never happened before… So either Dad is the MOST NAIVE parent in the world OR he just plays dumb, hoping it will help his daughter. It doesn’t seem likely either, that he didn’t ask where her car was, once she asked him to pick her up. And if he didn’t upfront, he knew immediately when he saw her that she was drunk…. I’m not buying it.
